Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop taking amphetamines

 

Slapped plate and lights on to be "street legal" and crawled through my first parking lot.

Oh, and built a front drive shaft...

 

@turbodb - yep you were right! Thanks for giving me the advise on this one!

I had to take off the cover from the interior fuse panel and stick my hand back there to feel for the ticking.
Then lay down completely in the drivers footwell and remove while noting the fin orientation and pushed it in.

I initially had the dial set to low/slow and it would blink like a 76 coupe de ville.
Cranked it up some more and it just a bit slower than OEM.

One thing to note: the relay is audibly louder.

Actually I sold my Wildernest which I had restored with a new canvas tent and all stainless steel hardware, yada yada, and I’m building a “GFC” camper. Pretty slick so far, almost done with the tent and my back hurts worse from sewing than any day wrenching.

This is what I used, passenger and driver side. No issues.

 

Here is a thread I did, just as I finished the install. However, I have since changed my mind about the mounting of the seats, and would investigate removing the subfloor false bottom area at the front of the seats. This would allow the seat to go in lower, and give more adjustability, especially if you are using something like the six way power seats that I used. I would also look for seats that had flat rails. I lucked out with the BMW ones, as they were flat, but it eased the install somewhat.

Frame for the LFC (Light and Fast Camper) is ready, time to bring it to life.

 

I decided to paint my old rattle can of a truck with the rattle can... turned out pretty good...


It still needs another coat, but not too bad for a $36 paint job...

I've seen a lot of down talking using the rattle can for paint, but for me honestly it's not worth it for the age and abuse this truck gets. Plus, the added advantage is that if it does get dinged or scraped or scratched, I can touch it up with spray paint. Simple. Functional.

 

Gettin there. I'd eat off it, but then I'd have to clean it again.

 

what kind of carpet and spray adhesive did you use? I've been wanting to tackle this project but I I've concerns carpeting the double sided curves with flat carpet. can you please post pics of the seams? thanks.

 

as far as what carpet i used, it was just the cheap Home Depot indoor/outdoor stuff. i picked the gray, but i think it comes in more colors than that. i think it was called TrafficMaster. as far as adhesive i just used the standard 3M 90 High strength spray-on adhesive. it wasn't cheap (like $13/can) but with the adhesive i think it pays to get the good stuff the first time around. if it doesn't hold it'll start to droop/sag and you'll either have to tear it all out or cut slits and re- apply as needed. personally i'd rather just buy the good stuff once.

on the seams i just cut them and glued them together. some of them are pretty ugly, but they're all functional and will work well enough. as long as they work to insulate the cap a bit and keep condensation from raining down on me... i'll be fine. i actually didn't find that the curves posed any issue, the hardest part is the corners. i just kind of jumped in and learned as I went. just start from the middle of the top and work your way out. don't rush it, take your time, and you should be fine.



as i said, not pretty but they're functional.

on a side note, i finished today with the carpet. I decided to wait and not put the windows in until the new windoors arrive...but now i've got to get the money for the windoors.

Battery is getting tired with 4-5 days between driving the truck so giving this a whirl.

 

Took the rig to Reno Cars n Coffee. Then went to 4WP and used the RTI ramp to check clearances with my boys.

 

Wheeled it for the first time in 5 years. Damn it felt good.
