A couple of years ago there was a rash of wheel thefts in the neighboring city. All that wheel locks did was get the car owner a broken window to get the lock out of the glove box. And if the lock wasn’t there, a ransacked car.

Got quoted $34 for OEM lock kit.

Going to shop around to see if it's cheaper anywhere else,
or cheaper aftermarket with the same function.
I was expecting it to be $20

Would not be convenient running late to work in the morning if the truck is found sitting on bricks.

I think the OEM options are 00276-00900 and 00276-00901
Not sure what the difference is

I'd bet some overzealous individual just hammered them down with an impact gun the last time they were put on. They have torque specs for lug nuts for a reason.

    Common at shops.
Some lock keys are also sturdier than others.
IDK if threads can seize. If yes, probably less likely if a vehicle gets tire rotations every 5k or however often.

Definitely. I run two separate sets of locks from two reputable manufacturers, all of my lugnuts are locks!

I have McGard- I don't know the PN but IIRC I bought them on Ebay. I've not had any issues with them, but they're generally useless now as other have said. With a battery impact and a "turbo socket" a thief will get your wheels in a minute each, locks or not, if he wants them.

I put on the Toyota ones shortly after I bought my X-Runner. I think those were the only 18" wheels on any Toyota at the time, and I didn't want them to disappear.

I connected the inverter to a motion sensor that only activates when the car is shaken with the engine off. The inverter sends voltage to the wheels so if the thief connects to ground they get a nice zap.

j/k but that would be cool
