DIY Bed Rack with ARB Tent

Built a DIY bed cross bars using the link below. Added an extra bar and an extra piece of metal for support. I have another rack from RCI on the way but leaving for a trip and needed something that works until I get the other.

i really like this set up for road travel (the most fuel efficient) since the RTT does not stick up over the roofline, but I sometime worry about once its open been too low? Do you feel you loose campground space? cause when its full high you have a small roof over your head... let me know

I made some for my RTT. Just used some bar stock hammered into a 90* angle and drilled holes to bold to some t-nuts for the bed rails.

 

Looks nice, after I ordered the brackets and started looking at it I wondered if I could have accomplished the same thing with just an L bracket, well done. The only thing I would change if this was going to be permanent setup would be to paint all of the parts black. BTW, first time seeing that green in a non advert photo. Looks awesome.

 

That is nice. I did a less reversible thing and drill holes through rails and bolted direct to truck bed rails. There are no bed racks that work with the bakx2 revolver cover. The unistrut is great stuff and doesn’t rust. Mine have held my bicycles on there for over 10,000 miles and up to 80 mph.

 

I bought the end caps too and need to paint the black soon.

 

Have pics? I have a revolver. But I was wondering using the kB voodoo brackets and this=no cutting..

 

You can zoom on this one to get an idea. I just used some big bolts and drilled 4 hole and had to reach under to get nuts on the bolts. I was a pain reaching under but worth it. I will try to get some pics tomorrow of the bolts in the rails.

I might do that budget one with the kbvoodoo and just remove when I’m not using it. Hell I may just do that Kamp rite on it. It would be like a 400$ RTT ccombo haha

 

I have an X2 Revolver cover as well, I don't want to give it up. I ordered a rack from RCI Metalworks along with the adapters that are supposed to work with the X2. Unfortunately, we have a trip planned and I waited to long to bite the bullet so I won't have the rack in prior to our trip. This was my "Plan B". As soon as the rack and adapters come in they are going on the truck and my X2 is getting put back on.

I'll post pictures as soon as I get the new rack installed and test the use of my X2 Revolver cover. I'm really hope it functions as good as the photos make it look.

 

So these hAve to drill into the bed rail?

 

No drilling, hard to tell in the photo but it has a bracket that extends under and down to the track inside the bed.

 

Gah.. Tonneau is making a RTT system a 2k+ ordeal. when it could be way less. Not even worth it to me anymore lol
