Hey fellas, call me paranoid, but it looks like my rear dif is leaking. Anyone else driving an 18 see this issue? This a common problem on most third gens?

There are so many that there should be a club sponsored by TRD with a sticker for your window.

    Seriously.

Mine looks just like that...Toyota put out bulletin in January...Saying they will no longer repair it for seeping ...now if its dripping on your driveway it might be covered.... Had a 2017 OR repaired twice & now a 2018 repaired once...still seeping ....

Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
Seeing this doesn’t make me miss my Tacoma...I had that seeping 2-3 times and they actually ended up replacing the whole pumpkin at one point and it STILL seeped even after all of that. One time the axle seals were even seeping.

I'd be pretty damn ticked off of they don't attempt to correct an issue on a truck that barely hit 20k miles, especially knowing that this has been an issue for a while now... I scheduled a service for this coming Monday, I'll keep you guys updated on what they say for those that plan to take theirs in for the same problem.

Not a huge problem initially. But if he can get it looked at for free, why not. Realistically, he's not losing a ton of fluid. By the time it comes around to having to change the fluid, he won't have lost enough to make a difference.

Not an issue at all really.
Every pumpkin I have serviced I use Permatex 81182 Gear Oil RTV Gasket Maker
You will never have an issue. People make this out like it is the biggest issue to have in the world and glad they got rid of it ? People should uber instead of buying a vehicle sometimes.
It's nothing. Why Toy doesn't use the gasket maker material I don't know. Smart dealerships do.

    https://www.amazon.com/Permatex-81182-Gasket-engranaje-paquete/dp/B0023GM2KK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=differential+sealant&qid=1589682235&sr=8-1&th=1

Almost 100% 4/5 star reviews on Amazon. Best stuff since sliced bread.

Thanks for the advice J, if this continues being an issue, I'll service it myself and use the gasket maker you reccomended.

Do you know if they ever checked to make sure your diff vent wasn’t plugged?
That can sometimes cause a seal leak.

    Lots of sail boat fuel
The most likely case that they're not willing to admit is that the studs arent to the rated tensile strength they were supposed to be from heno.

Not really a big issue. I'd seal it myself and call it a day.

diff breather was OEM the first time - once I got it back I did the diff breather up behind the tail light and it still ended up doing it

Every single Toyota PU I ever had looked like that and it never was low when I serviced it. The first one was a 1980 and the newest is a 2011.
