RTT - RetraxPro MX w/ KB Voodoo HiRise Crossbar or Retrax Pro XR w/ rhino rack

Hi all,

I'm currently debating between RetraxPro MX and XR tonneau cover for my 2019 TRD Pro. I plan on getting a ruggedized RTT from tepui since I will be offroading, this weighs in at about 195lbs.

It seems as if getting the XR and rhino rack might make the best sense, but the load capacity of 220 lbs is concerning (is this dynamic or static?). If it is static, this most definitely will not work.

The KB Voodoo HiRise has 200lbs dynamic and 500lbs static. Am I too close for comfort here on the dynamic rating? I could go with an extra crossbar I supposed for added safety, but it wouldn't look all that great.

Maybe I should get a lighter tent, but I figured the sturdier the better for off-roading. Has anybody experienced issues with lighter versions of RTT and off-roading?

 

Assuming you're not rolling around with your tent expanded, I'm not sure what is "ruggedized" that would make sense for off-roading. The tent is tightly stowed and packed away when you're moving. Seems more like a way to charge people more...

But either way, seems like you're pretty close to the limits anyway. Even with a lighter tent, you put 2 people in there and you're already damn close to 500 pounds.

 

And forget mounting a high lift, water, gas, etc on it. That adds up quickly.

 

I went with the explorer autana 3 (130 lbs without annex). I do have a little bit of buyers remorse because the annex is currently useless but it will allow me to upgrade the bars for a rack in the future.

My only concern is the spacing between the bars at the moment, but I’ve seen people on here have had a similar setup with no issues.

 

i thought the ruggedized just meant it had thicker tent fabric, not a difference with the mounting options.
