Installed a lift a couple weeks ago along with ecgs bushing. Was hearing a noise from drivers side and it looks like the CV has more play and isn't quite as far into the diff as passenger side. Also found that the alignment shop left the cam bolts loose. Less than 30ft lbs loose. I pulled the cv and put it back. It is definitely seated and hard to remove but has at least a 16th more play than the passenger side still. ECGS bushing is flush with the ring on the housing. Noise I was hearing had a metal clunk and a kind of whooshing noise at cruise and not under any load. Gets quiet when I turn, brake, or accelerate. It is definitely something rotating and not suspension.

Well that is normal I guess. Checked my 4runner and the CV on the drivers side doesn't sit quite as deep as passenger. So I have no idea what the noise is now. Glad I found the alignment bolts though. Putting it back together now and will mount a gopro under there if it is still there I guess.

Retorqued all the bolts and took it back out. Still there. The noise includes a clunk and seems like it might be too fast to be a wheel bearing or cv. Wonder if it is a driveshaft or in the diff.

Well I was able to hang out the window and test today now that it's not raining. I could tell it was actually in the back. Started with the easy stuff and found that both rear sides had one lug fairly tight and 6 on about 3 turns. Thread showing between lugs and wheels. So another example of don't trust a shop. Alignment and tire rotation and they didn't tighten and cam bolts, all were under 30 ft/lbs and both rear tires were barely on. Wtf. Didn't expect that.

Glad I tore the front back apart and found the cam bolts but that was some wasted effort for sure. Was positive it was from the front yesterday.

Yeah that's bad. I wish I didn't spend the day pulling the CV, but at least I found the cam bolts too

Wow, you're catching all kinds of stuff. I assume no damage from the loose lug nuts? You tightened them back up, do you hear the clunk still?

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I think you just got super unlucky on that visit. That's definitely not normal from any service department

Yeah clunk gone. It wasn't a dealership just a shop local that could get me in for an alignment. Not again.
