In regards to the Hunter Safety course, I found the Thornton 1 day class to be the "easiest". You meet at the Thornton rec. center for 3-4 hours then drive to an indoor range in Broomfield for the firearms qualify. You'll need to do and complete the online version of the course in order to do the shortened class. Unless you're interested in one loooong day or up to three days of class work. I suggest the online version. :D

    Stuff. Also things.
This sounds like what I would be shooting for. I just want to get as far as I can from all of the dipshit road hunters.

If you aren't willing to commit full on into hunting, you can get an apprentice license valid for 12 months and I believe it allows you to buy all licenses and tags.

The only catch is, you have to be with someone who has the proper license and that person is responsible for teaching you. I've done this with friends before to gauge if they really like it or not but more for small game hunting.

I was able to. First year doing it and it took me a hell of a lot longer than I thought it would. I guess it’ll get easier the longer I live here.
I put in for Bear, Elk, Deer, and Pronghorn. I bought a preference point for Moose. If I draw the bear, I’ll be rifle hunting all September. Pretty excited about that.

    what about everyone else?

Similar for me except I went PP across the board. PP for elk, pronghorn, mule deer, moose, sheep and goat. Planning on OTC elk with a OTC bear tag.

Is there any good hunting areas near Colorado Springs? Sorry new to the thread. Moving to Co in January. Want to start looking at maps, camping areas and trails. I don’t mind putting a pack on and humping it around. Would prefer to start out with mostly vehicle biased hunting due to the wife having a bum knee. Really want to hunt elk, deer and birds. I’m used to hunting the mountains in Nevada so Colorado is going to be interested because y’all have trees :rofl:

I don’t mind driving a little either. Used to driving 1-3hrs for anything good.

Oh, and here you get a license for a specific area (lottery but someone who has been out more recent can provide details) and not sure how "open" that one is.

I’m used to lottery. Nevada does the same thing. My mind was blown in Maryland when they said I can buy deer tags over the counter. Then again their deer are pretty small so takes a few to make a decent meal :rofl:

lol, I am from MD and got my hunting start there. I thought the Whitetails out West (Allegany & Garret County) were I was were just fine. Heck, we used to get some with muzzle loader so you know they couldn't be that small.

First post, long time lurker. I’ve had the truck 7 days; primary purpose for getting the truck was for hunting. Had a good day of shed hunting / scouting

Alright fellas. Drew my limited bear tag for first season rifle. September 2-30th, pretty stoked. And also just saw a $40 charge on my card but no email. Think that means I drew a Muley tag. Anyone else got some good news?

I scored Antlrd deer, 3rd Rifle in Units 64/65 (S/W area). My either-sex elk is still in "Entered" status, but we still have 2 more days.
Which area/units do you guys prefer to hunt?
