They do ride different, and most of it has to do with the fact your wallet is severely lighter on some of the trims which impacts truck weight

Thanks guys for your help. Just drove a 2019 SR5 4Runner with 31000 miles. How it got that many miles I do not know. But if seems like a pretty good ride. How do these do off-road? Tires were strictly street.

My Sport suspension on road is fantastic. Firm and responsive, doesn't get too out of control on rough pavement. Corners nicely and rides great on the highway. Off pavement it can be a little jarring, but then compared to the Samurai I used to have, my Tacoma is like 4 wheeling my couch!

The black shocks on 3rd Gens are Hitachi/Tokico:

Was hoping they'd be KYB's. Had KYB's on the tundra. They lasted forever and worked well.

As someone once stated on TW, every Tacoma once started as a base sr and the more features you add, the more you spend. Some people feel different parts make a better ride, some don’t.

I think pro suspension is designed to tackle the same obstacles at higher speed, so it takes more energy to compress the shocks. It is stiffer on road compared to OR due to this. But if you go over a speed pump or pothole, at relatively high speed, you will barely feel it.
