I recently bought a Tekonsha P3 Brake Control for my '15 Tacoma and needed to provide an on/off switch to avoid battery drain while I'm not using it. The easiest way to do that is to open and close the circuit on the ground lead, as the hot lead is in a bundle of wires coming from the factory tow package plug. I also purchased this switch, a Daystar Universal Rocker Switch with Blue Light, 20 Amp, Single Pole, KU80011. How can I wire the switch to illuminate while switching the ground lead?
Failing that, are there any recommendations for an illuminated switch that I can wire that way? Ideally that would fit in the switch panel under the entune console?

Wire your switch as normal, but use the switched lead to control a relay that makes/breaks the ground to the controller. That way, your switch still illuminates when activated. Wire it so that when the switch is "on" when power is applied to the controller.

Does the controller draw that much when the truck is off that it is a real concern? I think many folks that tow that are members of this forum use a P3 and have not heard of concerns of draining the battery.

I was also under the impression that the tow circuits were "off" when the ignition is off.

I had a brake controller for yesterday installed. It was never an issue. It's this switch required per the instructions?
