I was wondering if you all had come across this before. I was coming out of a parking garage in Boston that had a decent incline as the garage get was below the building. I stop to pay the fee, and when the gate goes up I went to move.
I gave it some gas but the car stayed in the same spot making almost like a clicking type of noise. I tried again, same thing. I out it in park again and then it seemed to be ok. It has happened before but this was the most recent example.
Any thoughts if this is an issue?

How much did you rev the engine? Give it some gas next time and see what happens. That don't sound good though.

Sounds like hill hold using the ABS brakes. Normal, but usually won’t keep going after you press the gas to accelerate.

I wasn't aware the automatic trucks did that. The clicking noise gives me pause but it could just be that the OP isn't using enough gas.

    Hill start assist maybe?

I don’t know, but it’s under warranty. I would’ve dropped the hammer to see what happens. :D

Thanks for the replies everyone, I will try gunning it next time and see what happens. I have had it for 9 months and still learning.
I guess I am slightly disappointed as there are little thing that pop up like this, the differential whining, roof trim coming off, and now the auto braking alert sometimes coming on when driving down the road with no one in front of me, and the collision sensor just shutting off saying it is dirty when there doesn't seem to be any issues.
I love the truck but these little things just seem a bit off.

Yep. If it detects you rolling backwards it will automatically apply the brakes to help you get going without rolling too far.

I routinely parallel park on a steep incline and use the e-brake to avoid rolling backwards. I believe they touch on this technique in the owner's manual.

The Automatic Off Road has Hill Start Assist and the Manual Off Road does not.

My manual sport has this and it's annoying as hell. That's what the handbrake is for. Just another reason I should have bought an off road.

you should post up some pictures of the dash when these alerts go off, someone else might have had the same problems and had them addressed

2nd generation here. If you are a steep uphill grade and in a forward gear and take your foot off the brake without giving it gas. The truck will attempt to hold position. It uses the ABS to do that. I actually find it useful.

Sounds like my wife's MDX. I think false alerts are par for the course with all of the assisted driving features. Collision sensor false alarms are like a universal complaint across all manufacturers.

I had a few hiccups when I bought the truck, but all were addressed under warranty and none were issues that would have left me stuck on the side of the road (my biggest problem was resolved when Toyota finally admitted they had a bunch of defective dashboard meters -- heck, they replaced it and I had shiny new plastic over my panel for a few weeks).

These trucks come off the line shiny and new, and there's bound to be assembly goof-ups and shit that comes loose on a few.

Maybe I'm just jaded. My first new vehicle was a Volkswagen (Jetta), and honestly, you guys don't know what a shit car is... :)

My 3rd Tacoma, 2012 did not have hill start problems as stated before. Bought a new 2019 TRD off road and experienced the problem. Plus the LSD light flashes on the instrument panel. Took it in for service and they could not duplicate issue. Recently purchase another 2019 TRD off road with more options and am having the same issue. What bothers me the most is that happens even on slight inclines. Seems a little weird to me. Anyone have updates on this? Thanks

2019 Tacoma TRD Pro Automatic DCSB with the same issue. I thought it was a fluke the first time it did it, but it was repeated this evening twice at a steep stoplight in the city. I will have to read he link above and see. I was worried about a low AT Fluid level causing it.
