Don’t get the cheap electric hedge trimmers by the way. Green works. Had them for to be fair about two years but barely used. There was definitely a loose connection in there as of today it would randomly stop working.

sledge hammer catharticism means they can’t be returned but I think I paid like 20 bucks anyway.

Nice...looking good. Cobblestones are great and expensive for edging. If you have not done so with the edging around the plant beds that border the lawn, I would edge out the lawn in front of the pavers at a steep angle nice and deep, a good 8 inches deep and 8 inches or so wide then replace that with mulch. Then when you mow you will not need to trim in front of the pavers, the edge of the mower can clean that right up.

True, but I have not had any time off since I am essential and have been going to work. I am grateful for being able to keep the job but my honey do list in the yard is just as long as it ever has been!

the ones next to the pavement were repurposed. The other side I just went and got them last night to match. It was about 130 at HD but I really like how they turned out.

going to the mulch and rock yard in a bit to price out stones. Mulch will be about 175 and if stones aren’t that much more than that I’ll probably do those instead. Makes next year easy too.

Part came in, doesn't look to be the right one. Where did you find that part number?

I've got a relatively inexpensive Ryobi 18V battery hedge trimmer that works ok. I think I've had it for 8 years now. It's not overly powerful so I can't aggressively cut back shrubs but it gets the job done. For what I paid, I've been pretty happy with them. I can also trim all of my shrubs on one battery. If I had a larger area, I'd have definitely gone gas powered Stihl or Echo commercial.

Even John Deere's parts catalog points to that number:

I wonder if they sent you the wrong thing.

Throw it in some salt water to get the same patina and it'll look right as rain
In your photo, 'This part substitutes for MIA12346'. Me thinks it's just an updated part and that's why it looks different.

EDIT: Here you go, here's the old part number:

Odds are that they've tweaked the the coil design for that armature over the last 40 years, lol. If the bolt holes line up and the ignition wire is the right length, bolt it on and try it out. I'll bet a six pack that it works.

it fits, what I think is upside down, leaves the wire connections exposed. The way I think it should fit, doesn't line up.
    edit: one wire doesn't reach.

Customer care said I want part number MIA12346, not the substitution.

yeah. Mine landed magically under a sledge hammer and then ended up somehow by some miracle in the trash bin.

Wow, weird. It won't even let me pick that part on John Deere's catalog--it just redirects me to the substitution!
