What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Tried Hyperdip on my grille badge. It had been plastidipped for a few years and it held up fine over that time, but the finish wasn't great. This stuff went on better and is a lot smoother.

 

OK only curious as that.... kinda acts link an eductor..which would create a lo pressure area in the opening of the scoop. didn't think it wud be an issue, just curious...

I dumped the scoop and added a seperator from AEV on mine, much happier

I realize there is much debate on the subject of the intake. But I know Toyota recommends the snorkel intake ( on the TRD Pro anyway) be turned completely around in the winter as fine snow can be sucked right down to the air filter. I think the way you have it would work great.

 

I'm going to use it on my new grille.

 

LoL, I do not check it every time I fill up. I just keep an eye on it. It's a good indicator on the life of your spark plugs, throttle body, MAF sensor, air filter, just to name a few things.

I knew my Taco would get bad MPG's before I bought it. Its actually kind of comical that it gets worse millage than the Wifey's Suburban. But when I cleaned my MAF sensor and Throttle body for the first time at 60k miles, I saw almost 1 MPG increase. I put over 20k miles on my truck last year and by my calculation that 1 MPG saved me $130. Multiply that by the fact I take care of all of our vehicles at this level of detail, the boat, lawn mower, dirt bikes, weed eater and everything else we own that runs on gas.

I also save those envelopes you get in the mail to return CC offers and send them with my kids to school for lunch money. And my wife works in health care, so I use free pins with some pill slogan on them. I have never paid for a beer koozie, yet I have a draw full of them. And I also don't sit around and wait for some government hand out the first time I miss a paycheck. Well I haven't missed one since the day I turned 16....

One of my best friends lives his life all willy nilly. He's still one of my best friends.

 

Would it still create an air pocket on the side like that? That’s why I didn’t face it backwards. I figured there would be an air pocket behind the snorkel if I put it backwards but I read that sideways still allows air to pass along the face and suck in. But maybe not haha.

Interesting. I had not seen that, but that was my thought process for sure.

Looks great Rick. Would it be too much trouble to remove the flare, put on the decal and then reinstall flare rather than trim around it then?

 

He'll yeah a lot more work. I score it cuts easy then I tuck it behind the rubber seal. It's the heat gun and boom looks factory

 

yes as air goes by the face of the scoop it creates a LP area.inside the scoop neck....most ejectors/eductors have a nozzle inside which increases velocity , I wudn't be concerned, was just curious how it was working...

 

Took off my Mobtown Sliders last night from my truck to address some minor rust before it becomes a problem. You have something on for so long and it just looks different when you take it off. Truck feels lighter too, haha. Man those Mobtowns are heavy, but beefy. Planning to LineX them.

Getting started on some much overdue maintenance. Rebuilding a spare set of LCAs I bought from a TW member 2-years ago with new balljoints and Whiteline polyurethane bushings, oil change, replacing steering rack and u-joints (not pictured). Judging by the forum consensus and DIYs, I am not looking forward to swapping out the steering rack . Have not decided if I want to do the u-joints myself or just remove the driveshaft and drop it off at a shop to deal with...



Followed the torch + bottle jacket technique to press the old bushings out:




And the freshly rebuilt LCAs. The drive to my buddy's place to get free access to a press took longer than pressing in the balljoints/bushings themselves. Worth it

Hauled the kayak out near Galveston. A little windy, but beautiful day overall.

 

Some light modding this afternoon. Installed some Redline hood struts, a MESO Gasshole, and ACEkraut's low mount plate bracket.

 

That makes sense I guess, the thought of checking every fill just had me wondering...I have no idea what kind of MPG my Taco gets, but I bet it'd be a lot better if I undid everything I've done...but that would suck a lot.

 

Got a link to that? What do you think about the quality? Like does if feel flimsy or pretty sturdy?
