I’ve got a tool box on my DCSB and we’re talking about taking it up to the mountains in a couple weeks for vacation so we can take our bikes. My 2 kids will be in the back seat so I’ll have to use be bed. What options do i have for making sure my luggage stays dry in the bed with the toolbox? Will a softopper fit over the toolbox? Do they make a waterproof storage system for the bed? Just wrap them in garbage bags and hope for the best?

I just use Plastic storage bins for luggage. Or i guess i use them as luggage. Durable and stay dry in rain.
My method over 15 years and still hold up today.

good plan. I use a roll up cover, but it’s not really waterproof and your toolbox eliminates that. A soft topper would likely fit with a tool box but you would need to put some work in to make it water tight, but it likely will never be perfect. Plastic bins would work, but they will be visible in the back. Pelican cases would also work, for much more, but again, they will be visible in the back.

I think the most cost effective way would be to remove the tool box, and use some cheap plastic bins with a cheap roll up tonneau cover over it all.

I've always used trash bags. Waterproof on a budget. Duct tape too.
