That’s the wildest thing I’ve ever heard. I towed 3000 pounds and everything was fine. What gives?

I’ve driven 2.7L 5 speed Tacoma’s for the last 20 years. Driven all over the eastern US, Midwest and Canada and lived to tell about it.
Even pulled a trailer on many occasions!

I’ve hauled, towed, and have high mileage. The truck exploded every time. Hell, it just blew up when I turned on the ignition to get a current pic of the ODO.

I have a 2010 Tacoma with the 2.7 and 5 speed tranny. I've hauled my 1200 lb 4 Wheel Camper all over the western US. I can cruise at 80mph on flat highways.

On gentle uphill grades, I'll downshift to 3rd and can usually maintain 60-65. It's been 100% reliable so far at 120k miles. It doesn't burn a drop of oil.

I love my 2004 2.7L and have been driving her for 6 or 7 years but I recently took a road trip to Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho and she really hated those damn passes. 10% incline and shes topped out. If I were to move out there permanently Id need to get second rig.... because there's no way in hell I'm selling my 2.7

The first few times going up hill I was so scared you couldn’t have hammered a finishing nail into my ass. Now I just laugh

Start by replacing the tensioner pulley for $30 now, instead of waiting for it to explode and fuse itself together forcing you to buy the entire $130 tensioner. Then replace the other idler pulleys at your leisure until the squeal goes away and buy a new belt

Ive got a 2004 and it has 3 belts with a few different tensioner pulleys. Im in the process of searching down the best fit for the three tensioner pulleys but the part numbers seem to never end

I think both the 4cyl and 6cyl are reliable, the four cylinder is easier to work on and replacing parts are very easy. I have a 02 4cyl and its been super reliable. 213k now.

The 4 cyl. has three things going for it over a typical 6 cyl. engine -- 1) it's been around for two decades relatively unchanged; 2) fewer parts that can go bad; and 3) a cast iron cylinder block. Whether or not these features translate into longer life is what we're trying to determine. My guess is that it does based on the use of this engine in other countries. The 2.7L is even used in a Toyota bus overseas.

Is there an issue with the automatic trans? I have one and have never had a problem with it. I do only have a 2wd so that could be why.

My primary objective of buying the 4 cyl was DIY maintenance..like changing the transmission fluid & a dip stick to check it !....the 6 cyl. means dealer service...I feel both have 300,000 mile dependability.......
