I am excited for this arrival today. I plan to make some sort of low abv farmhouse/table beer with this.

 

Just getting back from about a round trip from the house and back 5 mile cruz.PP’s”KooK”DIPA 8.5%.About to watch the movie”Arkansas” now.Not the first time enjoying these either.Beers/Cheers y’all!

 

I'm all out of IPAs, so gotta hit up the "special stash" of Stouts.

My buddy left some LA Aleworks IPAs from this weekend with me, not too bad.

 

My first 2 batches of hard cider finished up and I was able to try them out. I'm still calling them experiments because I was flying by the seat of my pants with the help of YouTube... I started with 2 jugs of Martinelli's Apple Juice (100% juice, no other crap). I just pitched the yeast into the first one and let it roll. I added 1/3 cup of brown sugar to the second one and then pitched the yeast. After about a week, the bubbled damn near stopped on the lower sugar one so I put it in secondary and let it settle out. About 4 days later, the same happened to the brown sugar batch. They ended up at 9% and 11%, both very dry and the brown sugar one is extremely tart. I cut them in the glass with some of the original apple juice and it's damn tasty! I won't be bottling these but, for the next batch, I'll mess with back sweetening and bottling once I find a recipe I like.

How did you measure the ABV? I feel like the few I've made came out to maybe 7-8% and that was adding a lot of extra sugar to regular apple juice.

Got my $28 kegs and a manifold today.

Also on a beer related note, I sent my Mash and Boil back and ordered an Anvil Foundry in the 10.5 gallon flavor. It is supposed to be here mid-June. I will also be ordering the “small batch ring” so I can retire my current BIAB set up and stick with one unit no matter what batch size I want.

 

I used a hydrometer, the one without the brown sugar started at about 1.075 and ended at 1.008 so, if I'm reading it correctly, that ones about 9%ish. Maybe a touch under. The one with the brown sugar started at 1.080 and finished at 1.005. I was using a Champagne yeast that I believe is good for somewhere in the mid to upper teens. I want to try it again with an ale yeast so I keep some of the sweetness.
