Hey guys- I've recently installed a remote start kit and as usual, the harnesses took a considerable amount of real estate behind my dash. i got everything to close up but the Interior Fuse box pocket cover (aka coin slot, junk area) to the left of steering wheel beneath the switches will not close. I've tried modifiying and tucking the best I can but to no success. any ideas you guys have or a way to possibly modify a cover of sorts to that little area ? I don't have direct pictures of my truck, but to illustrate here is what i'm talking about. thanks

Without disturbing the tabs, cut out that part of the back wall where it hits. Drilling holes may help.

You can put a dab of grease (or similar) on the parts that hit to mark the place you need to remove.

I drilled through mine to install a small toggle switch for a low level light that lights up my cup holder. Can't see the darn thing when it's dark outside.

You got any pics of your project ? That sounds pretty interesting! These cabs are dark as can be!

Yes the are. Before I retired I would leave my house around 0430. Between being half asleep and that dark cab it was tough trying to find my coffee cup. Putting it back was even tougher.

I'll get a few pics later with a little detail on what I did and used.

Did this thread go from fuse box door to int. lights? Yes it did, so. No doubt the Reg. Taco has, by far, the worst interior lighting of any vehicle I've ever been in. Need to light a candle to see if int. light is on. Replace with new LED & 500% better for $3.

OK, you asked for it. Hopes it not too long and boring.

I started with a 2 - piece led light strip kit powered by a cigarette lighter style plug that I bought at Walmart about 7 years ago. The on/off button is on the end of the cigarette plug. This button would light up when the light strips are turned on. I didn't want wire to be visible or hanging so I cut the wire from the plug to the two light strips. The light on the plug was cool and wanted to use it too. The light was a little too bright, I took a black paint marker to knock down some of the light. (photo 1) I also wanted some extra light near the center console cup holder, but didn't need the original length. I measured and cut the one light strip to fit. In order to get the light strip to fit the contour of the console. I heated it with an old hair dryer while forming it. (photo 2) The wiring for this light was run over and into the console glove box. (photo 3) I believe I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the console glove box to feed the wire through. The wire was then rununder the center console with the cup holders and shifter, up under the dash and over to the fuses. I removed the center console to run the wire to and under the dash. With the wire at the fuses, I drilled a small hole to feed the wires through to the toggle switch. Notice I said wires, 3 which are required to use a toggle switch. I add the second toggle switch about a year ago when I came across the second strip in a box and decided to put it to use. (photo 4) I used some thin aluminum I had for years to (somewhat) fashion the brackets for the toggle switches, which I also have had for years. The good thing about those brackts is I close the little door and they go away. The wire for the second led light strip was routed under the drivers side kick panel, the door sill and then up through the panel in the rear cab to the headliner. A little bit of velcro holds its to the headliner just fine. (photo 5)
I very seldom turn the second led light strip on, but use the center console and plug light all the time.

I like it man that's a nice rig job ! Here's some shots of some interior lighting I did with the flyzeye products. under my radio area to shine on the cup holders, in my center console, and in my glovebox. the ones under the radio bezel come on with my parking lights. they can be blue or white and i can dim them with the dimmer. the other 2 are powered by a magnetic connection when i open the console doors.

I like that a lot. I'll have to check out flyzeye products. How did you do the install under the radio? It looks like some kind of panel or kit? Did you tie into the radio light in oder to dim?
