So I just bought my first Taco, did my research, bout a lift kit, took a month to NOT rush it, THOUGHT I had picked a good shop in Amarillo TX, and when I get my truck home, the tires rub as I reverse out of the driveway. I need this truck ready for CO mountains by July, and I have zero confidence that the truck could make one outing without eating my tires to crud.

I made my intentions know to the mechanic THEMSELVES about 4 wheeling, trimming, cuts, etc that needed to be made and zero was done. Right now I have a 3 inch lift with with 285/70/17s and I STILL need someone to make the truck OFF ROAD Ready by finishing what was not completed.

Anyone in the Amarillo area know of a reputable shop (I am trying not to name the shop out of some misplaced sense of decency) or mechanic themselves in my area that doesn't react to trimming, cmc, etc as foreign terms?

Basically I need the trimming that SHOULD have gone with the job to be done. Right now I have a street truck...

I mean did you specifically ask them to do a CMC and is the shop even familiar with what that is? Sounds like you just dropped it off and said go.

Don’t take this the wrong way but you are that someone that needs to get your truck ready. There are a lot of variables when it comes to rubbing to include alignment, backspacing, CMC etc and you don’t always find where the truck rubs until you put it through it’s paces.

I’m sure there is a shop out there but you should know what you need specifically and specifically ask them to do it.

You did a good job of putting it in writing here not sure as to why it wasn’t reduced to writing in the contract with the shop performing the work as the onus is on you.

If I hadn't explained that clearly enough, yes... specifically. I spent near an hour and clearly explained my concerns and purposes, and did not just drop it off and say go as you assume.

So far I am very new to all of this, trying to do my research and search questions before posting, not sure TW feels quite like a friendly, or worthwhile pursuit of my time, tx for your input though...

And if I am that one to get my truck ready, asking questions is part of the process, and your answer is worthless...

Where is it rubbing? It’s not too hard to trim it yourself, especially if it’s just the plastic. Cab mount chop will probably run you a couple hundred

You say you took your time and didn't rush it , talked to them for an hour , did your research and it now rubs . It sounds like you didnt do a very good job of any of that . If you really did all that and it was me they would be making it right and I wouldn't be on here bitching out members . So whatever .

Dude. Imagine they were there 6.5’ from you drinking a beer and asking those questions back to try to triage what kind of patient you are on TW. You’ll get help here, but saying fuck you to people you just met tells us more about you than their responses.

Also, welcome to Tacomaworld. I don’t think anyone said it in your tire post from Monday.

    OP,

Just trying to be helpful. You are where you are ... and as we say ... it is what it is. I don't know much about Texas geography but I will say any time I visit I always have a good time whether it is in Austin, Houston or Dallas.

It sounds like the place you took your truck to didn't do what you expected them to do -- that may be your fault, their fault or a shared failure of responsibility. It is what it is. You might want to use the search here for best lift shops in the Dallas area, Dallas Fort Worth area, etc. I saw of few of them and it looked like they were calling out good shops as well as good Tacomaworld members who may be able to help.

Best of luck to you !

@V0oD0o do you have basic tools and a garage to use? Have you looked where it’s rubbing? Do you know what a cab mount chop is? Do you have youre alignment sheet from after the lift is installed? 285/70/17 are going to rub on most trucks but you can get it to not rub without a cmc with a good alignment and some cutting

OP, did you do a CMC? Hammered the pinch weld? Alignment? Are you running wheel spacers?

The shop you took it to are they familiar with Tacoma’s? Or did you take it to a discount tire or 4wheel parts? All that matters.

    ...stuff
    To fix your problem:
Get an alignment... of your attitude.
Do a Cab Mount Chop... yourself out of here if you can’t do that.

take a deep breath. Did you do new upper control arms (needed for your height)? Did you do new aftermarket wheels (different offset can cause rubbing)? What lift kit did you get? Are you 2 or 4 wheel drive?

Maybe you need to get back on your medications. Might even consider a different therapist.
