Is purchasing another ECU when picking up HPTuners still a thing (recommended?), or has this been long resolved? I recall looking into this tune a while back, then bricking was an issue and that whole thing kinda scared me away.

I think they have resolved the write process. However, if it is your daily like me, it is my comfort blanket. A spare ECU is fairly cheap for common auto models but I wouldn’t say it is mandatory.

The magnuson is generally more fun due to the low end torque. That said, if the procharger was available last year I would have went that route most likely.

thanks to the logs i provided hptuner when i bricked my ecu.... they changed how the ecu get written. That stated there is always a chance of it happening, I still get butterflies when i hit the button to write and keep my original ecu that was unbricked by OVtune wrapped up in my glove box. Call it Brick PTSD. haha.

I would say figure out what part number of ecu you have and see if its easily obtainable. If it is i wouldnt worry too much, if it isnt (like your a late model manual) then id be looking to try and get my hands on one JUST IN CASE.

Lol try flashing your wife’s vehicle for real butterflies haha.

But yes @Musubi3 the flash process has gotten much much safer in the last year.

And @JustDSM the 4Runner tune is working :facepalm:51D75D5A-1701-46F9-9601-BC9C03EA7FE6.jpg

Thanks for the info and helping improve the writing process with the logs you gave. I'll look into the availability of my ECU. I also found your post (#4579: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hp-tuners-for-2005-2015.600793/page-229#post-21668410) pointing out where to find it. Thanks for that too.

If I recall correctly, I'll need 4 credits to activate the license to use the VCM Editor. Is the Pro version the one to go with? I'd only be looking to flash with JustDSM's tune and your transmission tunes.

You won’t need the pro, if you find out you want it to log other things later you can add it for same price to add it now.

@JustDSM helped me get a tune with STB2 and I am quite happy. Feels much more in line with what I had originally hoped for. Dead easy to do if you can remember to turn the key all the way

Can't wait to install a tiny pulley and some fuel upgrades with an exhaust.

Anyone ever mess with the throttle torque based limits?

    upload_2020-5-24_9-8-30.jpg

For one, what the hell, values above the max 89.8 and really spiky.

Reason im bringing this up is i am seeing some wacky throttle blade activity under moderate acceleration, stead accelerator pedal yet dips in throttle blade.

Stock Super charger tunes actually have gear based limits below max for 1st gear as well in the mid rpm range.

I have tuned those tables quite extensively.
If you get throttle reductions you need to tune these maps.
You can also use these if you are not seeing the throttle you want at part load / part throttle, etc

and if you set them higher than the maximum limit...I'll have to double check what it is, *I think 115%) you get instant limp mode and no throttle.

Interesting. above are stock NA values. 113* is definitely more than 115% of 84* max angle. I am assuming this table works in conjunction with the Optimum torque table?
