its quite obvious you research of the make/model/year before you buy, that's what the JD Power article is, and then you test drive to see if the actual vehicle will work for you, if it doesn't fit then keep the EcoBoost, its not rocket science.

But you gave the dude shit for wanting to get rid of his Tacoma because he doesn’t feel it’s reliable. You TW expect dumb ass comment, “did you test drive”. Was just that a dumb ass thing to say there. I actually would have expected a meme.

I tried to be nice and help create a place for you to think about it, but sometimes you just need to point out how stupid folks are directly to them.

    Its not rocket science.

Coming from a F150 eco boost. The 3.5 Toyota is gutless compared to my eco boost. I went with a Tacoma for the reliability. Now after owning my Tacoma for 7 months pretty disappointed in it

He bought it because of its reputation for reliability but is disappointed in the power.

So maybe “gutless” is not 100% evident on a test drive, but it’s a legitimate question since the guy is coming from a full size pickup truck .

    Right?

More powerful engines are less reliable. More reliable engines offer less power. See how that works?

    Reliability? Here’s some thoughts:

Ask a mechanic friend. Best if he/she works in Toyota dealership. They know what fails. My buddy is a master tech at Yota and pretty much predicted most failures I’ve experienced.

call parts dept and ask what they carry the most in their stock for a particular car. For the taco, last time I called they said calipers. Makes sense, I’ve gone through a pair (I drive it pretty hard).

google truck/car name and mechanical component. You’ll see lots of inquiries from enthusiasts like ourselves if something is prone to failing. I love the internets.

    Carry on fellas.

dumb people buy big ticket items without research and test drive get what their dumb ass deserves, and dumb asses blame the vehicle for short comings after the fact they bought it

Dumb people are- “I like fast things” “fast things are the best” “you know it’s gud because it’s fast” “well how fast is it” “it ain’t that fast” “I just wish it was faster” and on and on and on. They have a one track mind. Like a lab rat, an insect, or the town drunk. They only have ONE (1) single way to quantify the value of a thing. Typically these people weren’t in the Tacoma market, but for some reason they are now. Must be because the 3rd gen...”whoa Kyle check out that new Tacoma it looks fast”. Eh. It isn’t. And it never will be. No matter what you do to it, it will still get spanked by a fucking civic.

I chose the SR with a 4 banger. All the other 4 banger toyotas I've owned have been rock solid. I'll wager that Smitty99 never in his life, drove a pickup truck built in the 60s.

Point A to point B with a smattering of mud and rocks...Good enuff for Smitty1960

Dont worry. Those turbos will burn out in about 80K miles. Those engines are OK but they have lots of reliability issues. Go over to the Ford forums and see all the people who have had timing belts break at 40K miles lol!! I would rather have the naturally aspirated long running Toyota 3.5

lol they really don’t. My buddy is not easy on any of his cars and he has had no issues with his. 195k and as we speak, he is upgrading his turbos.

I know a few guys with higher mileage econoboosts. Not an issue. This is my only buddy who is crazy enough to dig in to it lol

This reminds me of Honda ATVs. They’re never the most powerful, but damn near bulletproof.

Also, I’m not sure why anyone is looking at a mid size truck if they’re wanting “fast.”
