    I'm considering getting a 50x4 Kick Key amp. https://www.kicker.com/key-2004-4-channel-smart-amplifier

Amp is "stable down to 4 ohms". I have Infinity Kappa speakers which are 2.5 ohms. I'm sure if I contacted Kicker they would simply say, "no, don't go lower than 4 ohms".

What do you think? Could I run this amp at 2.5 ohms? What would you expect to happen?

It would run hot, and probably go into protect mode at high volumes or after prolonged use. If you mounted it under a seat where it has some ventilation it might do reasonable. If it’s in the dash, it will get too hot.

    I wouldn’t do it, personally

This is most likely a resistance vs nominal impedance situation.

    https://mesaboogie.zendesk.com/hc/e...ted-impedance-not-match-an-ohm-meter-reading-

Basically just manufacturers targeting certain people with relative advertising. Infinity sells hard on sensitivity and possible labels their speaker resistance in DC resistance. Some try to use lower or closer to OE resistance speakers when swapping out. A lot of OE speakers are ~2ohm speakers. They market to people looking for direct factory replacement.

Speaker resistance is correctly measured under load or with power/current going to the speaker. Measuring them otherwise will only give a DC resistance, not accurate for relating to running parameters.

    TLDR: youre fine.

    *Edit:
I have run two seperate sets of Morels now in my Tacoma and Tundra. Both have a measured DC resistance (without power, not plugged in) of ~2.5 to 2.7ohm.

Both are labeled as 4ohm speakers, resistance charts supplied from the manufacturer show peak 4ohm resistance throughout their intended frequency range.
