I've seen the threads about this issue and how it's likely a failed actuator motor but I have a question.

    Background:

    '05 access cab

About 4 months ago my passenger side power lock failed. I've always opened it with my key fob as my key has never worked to unlock my passenger side door. So now neither key fob, key, nor door button would unlock or lock my passenger door.

This week my driver side door started behaving erratic. I would get out of my truck, close the door and press the fob lock as I usually do but it wouldn't lock. If I pressed it a few times it would eventually lock.

Then today it stopped working entirely while I was troubleshooting. I pressed the unlock/lock on the door several times and I heard a grinding noise like it was trying to lock. That happened a few times then stopped completely. So my assumption is the motor failed and I've ordered one to replace.

Now I have noticed there is a clicking noise (sounds like a relay) from the fuse box area if press the unlock/lock on door or key fob. Is this noise always there and I'm just now noticing it since my locks don't make a noise?

I checked the 20amp power lock fuse and it is good. If I remove it then the noise obviously goes away if I try to lock/unlock with fob or door unlock/lock.

Just trying to rule out some other issue before I tear apart my doors tomorrow.

    Edit:
After hammering my driver side door actuator area for a few minutes it started working again fairly consistently. So it could still be a motor issue or just the locking assembly is getting stuck.

Passenger side does not respond to hammering.

Also I now think the fuse area clicking sound is normal. But I can't be 100% sure because passenger side doesn't work.

    Edit 2:
Replaced passenger side motor and it now works very well. I haven't torn apart the old motor yet. The clicking noise in the fuse box area is normal.

Its the door lock motor, you can actually fix it for free if you have a little time. take the assembly out, disassembly is and be careful because there are some small gears, then take out the small stepper motor only. On the back side of the motor (without the shaft) you will see the back is held on by 2 crimp points, carefully pry up the crimp points with a pic. pull the motor apart and clean the shaft where the brushes rub. then re assembly.

The brushes over time can put a film on the shaft that do not allow good contact making the motor appear weak when it really just needs to be cleaned with some fine sand paper.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'd rather just throw a new motor in there which is what I ended up doing. I'll tear apart the old motor later and have a look. The new motor works very well.
