Good morning all - Special weekend of remembrance and thanks to all those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for us - :oldglory::oldglory::oldglory:

Well the weather personalities got it wrong, snowed most of the day yesterday but nothing stuck and the temps never got down to 32. 35 this morning when walking the boys with wet ground and clear skies. I doubt we got anywhere near the amount of snow they were predicting. @MTgirl, I assume perhaps you experienced the same, cold but not much white stuff?

    Have a great day everyone

Got my son a smoker/grill with offset firebox for his wedding last year. we just call em’ cookers. did his first use and did deer.and looks like the deer ham came out perfect. needs to cut againt the grain though but thats an easy fix. proud papa. he kept calling about cook temp,time,etc..reverse sear. off set cook then rite over the coals to crust outside4E57D429-4EED-4FF2-A88A-A1834057AEA8.jpgF4F26547-594E-45B4-895E-E521A28A3CC3.jpg

I made something similar with a dual grill (one side propane, one side charcoal) then bolted a smaller charcoal grill to the inlet vent side on the charcoal side of the dual. Getting ready to toss that entire set up because it's done. I have a stand up compressor tank at work that's about 80 gallons or so that I'm going make into a new offset. Not really sure if I'm going to leave it a stand up or lay it on it's side. Pro's and con's to both. Really thinking the stand up is going to be more to my liking. But that rig your boy has will do a lot of different things with excellent results. I've done full (uncut, slightly trimmed) brisket quite a few times in mine that came out fantastic.

only white stuff here was the fog that rolled in through the night. Burned off now but it was pretty thick earlier today. Stayed in the 40s last night too. Warmest night so far!
Gotta head for home in a bit and get in line with everyone at the poop dump. Might actually leave that task until tomorrow...

funny, im nice till someone crosses me. when i bought my house. called to switch the propane account to my name. they wanted $400 to change the name. said i wouldnt pay it she said she would turn it over to collection agency in two weeks. i hung up. called another company, said i needed a propane tank sit in and start an account and do you all remove other companys tank. sure do. set up date for next day. called original co. and asked for the same woman. Told her i bought a house ,shes like i remember. Well your tank is laying in my yard. you got a week to come get it or ill cut it in half and make a cooker. You cant do that. Hell i cant i dont have an account with you and if they tear up my yard you will fix and reseed it. She hung up that time. they came and got it:D:D

I've built a couple cookers out of compressor tanks. Made a small one out of a small round "pan cake" tank. It worked good for 1 or 2 people for hot dogs/burgers/steaks/chops/wings. I tossed it because I didn't use it much. Haven't had the guts to cut a propane tank yet. I've read a lot about it, could probably pull it off. Maybe if I find the right size tank I'll do it. The harder part is finding one at the right price (free).

I dont have the guts to cut a propane tank. people i know say you rinse em out then fill em with water.good 1/4 in cast cookers are expensive. we get by with cheaper ones but neighbor worked construction and made one out of 1/4steel pipe @ 2or3 ft dia. it would hold fire and heat all day. thought i was getting it when he moved a few yrs back but he decided to take it. had to use forktruck atachhment to move it. heavy!!!damn i miss him. was one of my best buds. id do stuff for him n he would do same for me. he always did a cookout for his work buds. @40 people. Always planned it when i was off to cook with him. every year Ribs,Pulled Pork and Chicken halves. the new neighbor is a dick. both mowing last week and were 6yds apart and wouldnt even look up to wave

The piece I'm thinking about using for the fire box is probably right at 1/4". Too thick for the plasma cutter I have so it'll probably be real slow with the angle grinder. I may take it in and have it cut. Not sure if I'm going to try to weld it all together or plumb it with heavy wall 3"- 4" exhaust tubing and clamp the fire box to the smoker box. If I put wheels on it (similar to a hand truck in shape) it may not be too bad to move, but not something I'd look forward to trying to lift. Even separated the 2 pieces wouldn't be light. Thinking about using 2 of those bigger diameter steel wheels like you see on the old school style fire hose reels. Probably somewhere between 24" and 36" diameter so I can have the fire box higher up off the ground so it's easier to load and clean.
