I had purchased the truck with 80,000 & at 160,000 was gonna change it & was told since I didn’t know if it was done prior to purchase, not to.
Since being on TW I have learned otherwise. The fluid was brownish red, not dark brown & did not smell burnt. So I went for it.
    Questions -
    1. The magnets do not have metal chards, however they are covered in a metallic sludge. The bottom of the pan is very clean. Is the metallic sludge a bad sign?

    2. Since way more than the 3-ish drain change quarts comes out when doing the filter, should I replace all of it with new? Or should I err on the side of caution & just put in a couple/few new along with some of the old?

Metallic “sludge” around the magnets are normal. It’s big chunks you need to worry about

Oh, & as far as my question regarding new fluid amount goes, I am now at 240,000. Not sure if that would factor in.

just fill it up, drive it a bit. drain, fill back up.. do this until the fluids red again.. shouldnt hurt anything.

Clearly not a X-Runner, since it only came with a manual transmission. :burnrubber:
