Now this says it all. To even mention 400 lbs shows the 4 cylinder is weak. Then to say you didn’t feel it MUCH.
Also the v6 is fine for towing. I towed a 12 ft box trailer filled to the top with household items 2600 miles without issue.

Nice, but I thought NY didn't allow trucks? Just kidding. As for the nice lady, don't buy either one. Get a 4x4. Always. 6 cyl is best, 4 is ok.

Uhhhhh okay? I said I didn’t notice it much because it felt like it ALWAYS does at 5000-6000ft elevation - a pig. Couldn’t tell the difference it was so small. No ones saying the 2.7 isn’t underpowered for a heavy truck. But with a 5spd manual and actually knowing how to drive, it isn’t bad and was dirt fucking cheap comparatively speaking (which the OP clearly has a budget).

buy hey enjoy the v6 bud! You have the only v6 in a Tacoma I’d want (4.0).

My 86 Toyota truck with 22r felt weak but back in those days we didn’t expect much. It came with no radio and no back bumper, cheap but we loved it. Whatever the OP gets it’s Toyota and that’s ok.

    I had a 4 cylinder 20R in a 1980 Celica and that was considered a sports car!
The 4 Cylinder is tried and proven...

A low mileage 2.7 is still a big upgrade from a 250k mile minivan, I’m sure your husband will love it

For the same money OPs budget, there’s a 2011 Tacoma DC Pre Runner SR5 V6, 12k one owner miles from Florida. Why just buy local? Get what you want, it’s your money. See if you do your homework and look around you can find the unicorn. www.autotrader.com

    I second this - -
I picked up a nice 2013 OR that was under priced - dealer didn't realize it was an OR b/c it had the decals removed..
I used the toyota vin decoder to determine vehicle features..

ALSO - BEFORE YOU BUY IT -
TAKE IT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC
    do a pre/purchase inspection..
look it over, and under well - check the frame, check the U joints, etc. . .
they can tell you if you are going to have any major repair issues/what they may be/put you in a better negotiating position..
should be 40-60$ and well worth it..

the 1st one i saw, drove fine but when i took it to a mechanic, it was a TOTAL RUST BUCKET. . . i can't imagine doing the brakes on that truck b/c the calipers, rust, OMG . . terrible..

the last one i saw, no leaks, no rust and now it is mine!

The OP came here one time to ask that question. Have you ever noticed that most people never follow up ? If she does come back she’d be exception but I’d be here to offer support for both of them.

I joined the day after I bought my tacoma. Never regretted the purchase or the TW community.
