This is more of a curiosity than a problem. I currently have 2018 DC SB OR 4x2. The driver side handle works with the key fob; the other 3 do not. I would like one on the passenger side for my wife. A buddy of mine suspects that Toyota wires all the door handles for the fob because it’s cheaper than keeping track of different models. He thinks if I just bought one it could be easily installed.

Is this a possibility? His logic makes sense but I can find no basis to support his logic. So I’m asking if anyone can confirm or refute this theory.

You can change door lock settings in your headunit. Change from "Driver door" to "All doors".

There are a few threads on this. I think you need to purchase the Lexus door handles for this to work. This switches to the key card instead of a fob.
Have you checked for settings in the head unit?

The fob has the button for lock and the button you press once to unlock, press twice to unlock all. I’m referring to the handle that unlocks when you grab it, without even touching the key fob.

my mom’s RAV4 has the touch door handle on all 4; I think the Taco Limited does too. I’ll research the head unit because, in all honesty, not sure what that is. :D Happy to learn though.

The head unit is the radio/infotainment center. The big screen between driver and passenger on the dash to the right of the steering wheel.

If you want smart handle on passenger side, you have to get parts from Toyota and install it yourself in order to use smart handle to un/lock the doors.

Check with headunit first and see if you like the way the truck locks/unlocks after you change the settings. If not, get the smart handle on passenger side but your wife will need a fob on her side in order to unlock the door with her fingers behind the handle.

Well, color me stupid... I had played with that to explore settings, I just never called it that. I had seen the setting y’all are referring to, I just thought it went to the key fob buttons, not the smart handle I just made the change!
