Yeah, hot goes direct to the Redarc and ground to the main ground lug by the start battery.

I feel your pain. It wasn’t offered separately on the preorder, so I just took the kit as is, I figure the other controller will just live in the repair kit now as a backup.

We can sell the system without the charge controller for an additional $30 off the current pre-order pricing (10% off MSRP). Send me a PM or email us at sales@cascadia4x4 if you would like to go this route. :)

Note that pre-order pricing will only be available until the end of the week. VSS Systems will start shipping out to customers this week. Let me know if you have any questions!

I had just ordered mine before checking the thread. I'm going to keep the controller as a backup as elpulpo did.

I could see this application for my boat and the top of my hardtop RTT. There may be other products I haven't seen yet. It looks like it would connect to my Goal Zero Li ion battery. Anyone tried that?

You bet! As long as your goal zero has a built in charge controller then you can plug the panel right into that with MC4 connectors.

    Pinche guey, here goes $600.
Any issues with glare? Or does this help that?
BTW, this popped up in my book of faces newsfeed and then in researching I found this thread.

Awesome! The panels work great as glare reduction as they have a matte finish and absorb all the sunlight as opposed to reflecting it. We'll be shipping these pre-orders early September. Let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers,

@jeeper how would one go about adding this to an existing solar setup? I've running a 100W panel, through a Renogy charge controller, to an AUX battery. This panel makes the PERFECT addition to bring my system up to 185W but I'd like to be sure if I get the panel only I'll be able to get it wired in.

Depending on the capacity of the Renogy controller you could connect your current 100 watt panel and our 85 watt panel together in series then to the Renogy controller (Assuming your panel has MC4 connectors). Alternatively, you could connect both panels to the controller if it has the ability to do so.

Otherwise you can purchase our complete kit with our MPPT charge controller which is good for a maximum of 130watts.

We now have these panels in stock! Shipping lead time is approximately 2 weeks. Get them before this run sells out :D

For people like me who are new to this, I love the way it looks and the idea of having solar panels on the hood, but can someone give me some examples of useful reasons to put them on the truck?

Camping more than one night, you can leave your rock lights on so no one hits you. Keep your onboard fridge/freezer running with no worries. Keeps your battery in good shape when in the desert heat (heat destroys batteries like no other)

And, given direct sunlight, it can charge a completely dead battery enough to start your truck in 30 min.

Exactly as @CygnusX191 mentioned: Our 85watt system will allow you to run a fridge/freezer indefinitely, as well as charge any sort of electronic device you need to without fear of draining your battery.

If you ever did kill your battery overnight the panel would provide enough charge to restart the vehicle in 30-60 minutes. It is a great backup safety precaution!

How do you think this will hold up to automated car washes?
