Hahaha! Good one! But no, it's just I have no time to be at the office, so I stand under the hot water longer!

Ordered a small greenhouse kit. I do some outdoor growing and have been sick of the moisture issues at the end of the year, and the wife recently has gotten into some veggies and stuff that we could start earlier/keep longer. MIL who is moving on site this fall is also a green thumb I think. Have a nice spot in the back yard near a spigot that easily gets 8+ direct sun hours a day  Has polycarbonate windows and I ordered an auto opener for the window, so I don't need to worry about it.

Excited to see how it goes and if its all its cracked up to be.:fingerscrossed:

I wish I could take a 25 minute shower, hell even when I take a bath I can barely last that long.

I just can't get my fathers voice out my head about what the hell am I doing in there and why am I wasting all the water:rofl:

10 minutes is a nice long soak these days.

We are on a well and I don't even pay for the water anymore :anonymous:

I'm in East Providence, but I would like to get on solar and a well if that's possible in the city area and specifically in my area, not sure haven't really looked into it. City sewer is awesome though. But our sewage cost is based on our water use cost (with a one-time exemption allowed to fill pools....seriously....) though so not sure how wells work with all that. If I was on a well, I'd also look at setting up a lawn sprinkler system. At least for the planter beds, I might get some of the misting ones and one zone just for that stuff and plan it to be expandable to the full yard (I think I could pull off my whole yard in 2 zones, 3 if I keep the planter beds broken out).

Someday I will end up with a greenhouse. the extended growing season would be helpful.

Yeah I guess it depends on your area if the initial investment is worth it. Out here a well seems to go for 4-8k depending on how deep they have to go. Then have to connect that to the house and get a pump.

in most cities and towns I think it’s 5-8k to connect to city water on new building.

depending on your monthly water bill, could be worth it. That is if it’s even allowed.

I’ve thought about it before, but couldn’t really justify/ have a place to put it. Now that we are settled and everyone seems to be interested, I could finally rationalize it to myself. We didn’t go super top of the line but after a few shelves and the auto opener it was close to 1k for a 10x6x7 with Powder coated aluminum frame and a tie down kit. So it wasn’t exactly cheap either.

I’m going to dig out the outline and fill them with some sand and gravel then anchor it to 2x4s as well as the anchor kit it comes with. I may have to move it someday so not pouring any concrete or doing anything I can’t repair easily.

I haven't checkout anything, but expected it would cost a buck or two.

It seems to range from a decent plastic for a few hundred to 8-10k for some very nice looking all glass etc... obviously you pay more the bigger or higher quality.

Maybe one day, but the one we got will look pretty nice and be more than enough. From what I’ve read getting it set up square and tied down for wind are the two keys to any greenhouse. Any bad reviews on almost all of them seem to lead back to those two issues.

Do yourself a favor, stick build it as much as possible, don't go with one of the kits. That applies more to sunrooms being built off of a house, I don't know much about greenhouses specifically, depending on the size though...stick build it and do regular windows :D

My water bill is about 50$/month. 2 people, 1200sq ft house - everything is cheap usually in relation to what a lot of people see for bills :D BUT I would have to look at an irrigation system to see how much that would use and then do out the maths.

I don't think we have to go deep here, so if I had to wing it, I'd say it's a 5k project +/- a grand or so. But, there's so many other projects to accomplish before that, I will likely be in a different house before that project even makes it onto the top 10 list.

Mine's only 30 ft--spring fed, so they didn't have to go far at all. It's also huge--probably 3 ft x 3 ft--and even in the driest weeks in the summer, the water level is within about 5 ft of the surface. Downside is that means the pump is in the house instead of a submersible pump, so it's much more noticeable. I'm not sure if it's my imagination but I think it may be getting a little slower and slightly louder lately. Fortunately, they aren't too expensive if it does croak, and I'd go with a Goulds this time instead of whatever cheap thing is down there now.

They all get noisy over time; I've got a Gould in my cellar and you can hear it when it kicks on. I built a box around it to help cut down on the noise (when you were downstairs it was annoyingly loud) but you can still hear it, even in the insulated utility room that it sits in.
But you're right, it is nice that they aren't very expensive. And an additional 'pro' is that when the power's out I can use my hand pump instead.

A box is a good idea. Mine's in a tiny closet along with the pressure tank that the original owner built which helps a bit, but the walls are mostly constructed out of cedar closet planks, so that doesn't do a ton to cut down on the noise. I can clearly hear the motor upstairs now--I think it used to be more subtle. It also runs about two minutes now to get the pressure from the low to high cutoff and though I didn't time it before I think it used to be quicker. It still keeps up with the shower, washer, etc. so I'm not too concerned yet but I think it may be getting tired. I keep meaning to check the pressure tank to see if I need to add any air, though I think that's alright--I can get quite a bit out of it before I hit the low cut and the pump kicks on.

I went the easy way, Ocean State Job Lot $50 for a small greenhouse. Get what you pay for but it's a small garden so it's enough for the startup plus the orange science project, giggle

Check with the town. You might be able to get em exemption for a pool fill. East Providence will do a one time exemption I think it's only ("only") 500 gallons.

Thanks man! I will look into that. Just dealt with the town about getting a permit and having to send drawings of where the pool will be on my plot.

It's Massachusetts... This level of idiocy or oversight should not be surprising at all.
