Gravity feeding brakes on 06 offroad with ABS???

Hi!! New to the forum, have owned my tacoma since new in 2006. wish I would have found this forum earlier, lots of great info.

My question: Will gravity bleeding the brakes in my 06 offroad 4x4 require anything special with the ABS system. Or, is this method kinda old school, better suited to older vehicles? I have found links to motiv pressure bleeders and am considering making one of my own, using a couple of ideas found online.

I have the time and am familiar with gravity bleeding, just cant find any info about what the best way to flush out my brake system on these newer trucks is! BTW, dont want to do the two person method if possibe, I can see an argument starting already with the girlfriend

Gravity bleed is slow. Get a friend and pump them.
the abs system is out of the loop until it is activated. If your abs didn't kick in when the reservoir was empty, you should be good with a normal bleed.
If you get all the bubbles out and the pedal is still mushy, find a gravel road and actuate it yourself, then bleed some more.

I missed that you were looking to flush it.
You wont be able to get the fluid out of the abs system without actuating it with a scan tool. It pulls fluid from the reservoir, so start with a clean reservoir and clean fluid. Actuate it on a gravel road, then flush the remainder of the system.

So what you are saying is that I should not attempt to do a flush by doing a gravity bleed on this pickup? Never done one on a vehicle with ABS and was unaware of the scan tool required.

Never really mattered to me that gravity bleeding took longer, just less hastle and more time to drink a few beers

Really just want to get this done right the first time, and since I am not working for a few more weeks, figured I got the time to do it by myself so I'm not waiting for people to get home after a long day to help.

Has anyone performed a gravity brake bleed on an offroad tacoma with success? Or is it going to break my brakes

 

You won't hurt it with a gravity bleed. Just make sure it stays topped off, and use clear tubing to keep fluid off the brakes.
