Grimm's 04 Limited Build

Well, I bought another 1st gen Tacoma!

Before I jump into making this build page I wanted to recap my vehicle history. Feel free to skip this part, its more so for my own personal memories.

The first truck I purchase was a 1991 Toyota Pickup. I was really young and bought it already "built" with full long travel. After realizing I needed to start with a stock Tacoma and build it my way, I decided to sell it after only 4 months of owning it. Short Lived


Second, we had good ol'faithful. Man, I love this truck. Sad I have to let it go but hopefully the 04 I just got fills the void. The reason I traded up is because the 04 is V6 MT and 4x4 unlike the prerunner. So therefore, all the parts I have for this one will be used to build the 04. I wanted something I could save on gas with for my commute to work so I went down and picked up a 2013 HD 883 Iron. Perfect for saving on gas and great for a cruise down PCH to Neptune's Net. But then I quickly realized that 883cc is not enough! After a short period of time the bike started to feel like a scooter when I was out on rides with family and friends. Ended up selling it with plans for a new bike later down the road.


And now my newest addition the 2004 Tacoma Limited 3.4l MT 4x4.

Thank you. I like the way your bumper and sliders matched up. I got a few little things I want to take care of first before I get into painting and mounting up the bumper. I'm a full time college student and also work full time so my available hours are often really short. Slowly but surely it will al start to come together.

 

Was able to install this USB plug and voltage reader. I really like the way this came out. I ended up relocating the cigarette lighter down below in an empty power port i had because I preferred the upper mount better. Plus I don't smoke so i really don't even need that cigarette lighter anyway.


Also, when I pulled the dash apart I noticed a bunch of old school aftermarket wiring. Stuff was way out dated, and instead of pulling all the wires out like a normal person the previous owner just cut the ends. So I went through and started to remove the useless stuff to clean up that area so I can begin installing the

ILX-W650 Alpine radio I picked up. I should be installing that later today.

Thank you. Life can certainly causes projects to take time. It took me over a month to get my sliders and bumper done. I try to enjoy it and learn and get better at this stuff to do the best job I can.

 

Nice job. I would have removed all that crap too. I like things to look neat.

 

I agree, I'm no mechanic nor fabricator but any opportunity I have to do something myself I will. I've learned a lot from replacing and installing parts myself and at the same time I can have the satisfaction of knowing a best effort went into it.

Thanks, yeah there was no point in having all that junk. Especially knowing I was going to be working under there again today to upgrade the radio. Then again when I pull my sub out of my 99 and stick it in this this rig. The overall job was a mess and very poor but on the bright side I will be able to reuse a wire he had that runs to a switch mounted by the cup holder. I'll post a picture of that later today when I get home, but it will be the switch I use for my upper windshield light bar. That way I save room on my dash for future accessory switches.

Installed my

$280 Alpine ILX-W650 Digital Multimedia Receiver with CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility

Alpine ILX-W650 stereo last night. Not a big fan of wiring but I think it came out well for my first go around. This radio has a feature that makes it so you can only use main menu when stopped but thanks to youtube I was able to bypass that by grounding the parking brake wire.

@rybern I got a pair of OEM headlights from my 99 that are just collecting dust. If you want them, their yours. Could use them as a side project to retrofit or just as a back up pair.

Yeah, no worries man. I don't have a need for them. Yours are looking real good! Mine aren't to bad but probably could use a good buff. I'll send them here eventually. Been a little held up between work and school lately.

Perfect, I can use it on the 04' to hold me off until I can get around to retrofitting.

Installed my under the seat sub that I had laying around from my last Taco. Hopefully I can get around to painting my bumper this weekend.

For the price its an amazing sub!

There are much better ones out there but this thing has more than enough bass for my Tacoma.

Also, if you feel its not enough bass you could always just get two, but I feel one with upgraded speakers is more than enough.
