She is a cutie. Driving home from our camping trip I passed a homestead on the highway that had a bunch of lab pups frolicking in the yard, had to fight the urge to stop and join in.

Got my GMRS radio installed, went with the MXT115. Rerouted power to my CB at the same time to a fuse that works with ACC power -- previously it would only work in the ON position, poor choice of power taps. Good thing I did, because the crimp for CB power was weak and popped out as soon as I moved the wire. Not sure how that happened, I always test them.

Note: The sticky pad for the mic mount doesn't stick well. I had to use good 3M tape.

Went with the stubby antenna for now, if it sucks I will get the 6dB.

My neighbor raises and sells them and they keep about 40-50 dogs, and several litters going all the time. They are super cute, but way too hyper for me and my lifestyle.

EDIT: I took link out in case mods are spank happy, but you can google Arkansas Labs for their website

You’re keeping the CB? And where are you mounting the antenna?

For now, I'm keeping the CB. It's good for highway chatter when road tripping alone. I may pull the antenna off for now.

Midland sells a 3rd gen hood bracket that goes where ditch lights would go, so I just went with that for the antenna. It would be simple to fab one up, though.

I bought one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LMH1L5S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It has multiple mounting options, but is designed for hood lip mount. I'm going to use the magnetic mount on roof of my Tacoma and use that to mount antenna on roof rack on Cruiser. Might be a little waggly for the 6dB but the 3 will work great.

Anybody know if Byrd’s is open? Thinking about coming from Oklahoma this weekend. Redding campground is closed according to the forestry website. Really want to take the family out before it gets really hot.

Just called them and they are booked for the weekend. Do you by chance know if any other good campgrounds in that area? I appreciate any help!

We went up to that area this last weekend and found all kinds of cool campsites in the woods. If you just drive some of the trails their are tons of dispersed camp spots out there. D426F8E8-1DD6-4989-A12D-D41387DD58B0.jpgB754F0F4-7DC1-46E1-AA87-06244CFD17A4.jpg

In our runs recently, all federal campgrounds, rest stops, over looks, etc etc have been closed. I know state parks have opened on a limited basis, but I don't think that's what you're looking for. Besides those, it's dispersed camping anywhere you can find a suitable spot. I'm not sure if Long Pool CG is an option, but with all this rain, I'm betting they are sold out as well, lots of boaters. I can tell you, forests here have been packed with people, boats, SxS, UTVs and broverlander wannabes on pretty weekends, and this looks like its going to be one. I wish there were more options, but outside of dispersed camping, may not be much to pick from.

Well I really appreciate all the info! I’m definitely up for finding dispersed campsites. It’s a shame all the federal stuff is closed. Hopefully it will all be opened up again come fall time. I plan on spending a lot of time out y’alls way once it’s cooler.

Thought I would put this in here first, but I have 4 of the Tacoma TSS wheels I would like to get rid of. Off my 2013 Tacoma with 62k miles on it. They are 17x8 I think with +18 offset. Will come with center caps and stock lug nuts. I’m thinking $700, and I can meet you wherever in central AR. 708DA88F-BEFF-4C2E-82F8-983ED64CA3BA.jpg
Also I can get better pictures if you want, and I’ll clean them up too.

Dave and I were going to do this for the mxt400, but it doesn’t get weather channels and only transmits 40W on the repeater channels. A new high-wattage version is supposed to be out by Fall 2020

Think I’ve decided on a hood mount 6db antenna for my GMRS setup. I discovered today that Prinsu now makes a roof rack for my truck and I see myself buying one in the future. For that reason I don’t want to drill my roof for an NMO antenna mount.
