...Thirty minutes later, we approached the spot I'd marked to camp. On the satellite imagery, it'd looked like a finger of land that reached into the lava flow - my hope being that the lava had left a "room" in which we could camp, sheltered from the wind. In reality, there was a finger of land that rose up onto the lava flow - a fantastical camp site... for a calm night....

Where in Idaho are you? We started a Toyota Off Road group up in the pandhandle if your ever interested in joining us.

 

Thank you. We are a bit South in the Wood River Valley. Likewise, if you ever make it to the southern part of the state we are usually out most weekends we are in town.

 

...And with that, we'd arrived. High along the ridge of the Pueblo Mountains, the 75-year old remains of a WWII plane, that crashed on February 2, 1945 - a clear night - scattered across the landscape. Eleven crew members lost their lives. A few years ago, a group of adventure motorcycle riders placed a plaque at the site to remember the brave men who gave their lives for our country....

Man this thread is great. Kind of the heart and soul of why so many of us mod. Sometimes I think we can get too wrapped up in the mods and lose focus on what really matters- the adventures.

Where is this? Looks a lot like the Elk Range/Maroon Bells outside of Old Snowmass/Carbondale.

A few from a recent trip

 

Took my l’il Taco up to my favorite dark sky park for some camping and stargazing/astrophotography.

Why sleep on the ground in a tent when you’ve got a perfectly warm and safe Taco bed?

 

We'd just been to the Owyhee area, but when the opportunity presented itself to get together with Mike, Zane, Ben, and Kirsten for Memorial Day, we knew we had to go back - the lure of getting together to enjoy the outdoors with friends, greater than the desire to explore somewhere new.

Plus, even though we were in the same general area, we were able to come up with an itinerary that wouldn't exactly repeat what we'd done just a few weeks before. That is, if all went according to plan.

Like all trips, this one wouldn't go exactly as planned, but as usual I'm skipping too far ahead.
