Bought the 2016 take-offs from a member here with 3000 miles on them, practically new.
I then added the AAL from headstrong offroad, it's this one.. I have been very happy with the setup. It exceeds the truck's capability to carry load and overall has been great. I towed with it often through the summer with my boat and this winter as well with my snowmobile trailer. At this point I'm very much limited by the V6 in the truck and will probably be looking to upgrade to something bigger to handle the boat's weight (5,000 lbs) and despite the snowmobile trailer being lightweight (3,400 loaded), it catches a lot of wind and the V6 can't pull it consistently at highway speeds without gear hunting due to the wind profile.

For what it's worth, I'm especially impressed with its ability to handle weight with the boat. I was at the truck's rated limits for GVWR and the rated limits on both axles in the last 2 shots... It's sitting perfectly level and handled that weight well when going down the road. Probably 500 lbs of tongue weight and then coolers, kayaks, and myself (single passenger when weighed). I'll be pushing it this summer with a similar load but with 4 people and gear/food for 5 days along with the boat and kayaks again and am anxious to see how it does.

Doesn't seem to be bending backward or overstressed, but sitting the same way a stock one would when level. Because of how the tacoma mounts springs, they look a little goofy but they aren't at a negative arch.

Thanks a lot for the response / update! I'm looking into picking up a set of factory springs (takeoffs). I'm guessing Toyota charges a bunch for factory springs. Thanks for the links and updated photos as well! Your truck looks great!

    Yeah yeah!

It didn't dawn on me until now - what lift did you have in the rear before? When I was running coilovers and spindles up front, with the AP pack out back on my 2wd I needed to add a driveshaft spacer due to no slip yoke on the 2wd. I didn't realize it until I kept destroying carrier bearings because they were being pulled out from the back.

Hmmm... I’m running Spindles & Icons up front and I was running a 2” Wheelers AAL out back. I’ve gone through some u-joints but haven’t replaced the carrier yet. So far it’s seems in good shape. I’ll def keep an eye on it. She’s sitting at just about 2” and some change now with the weight on her (tent, swing gate, etc...) (prob could have gone Expo’s) we’ll see how she runs! I’m stoked! I don’t necessarily need more height as much as much as I’m wanting performance... I can always do a shackle flip n the near future which is prob where I’m headed and she’ll be good!

    *side note...
picked up these bad boys and am looking forward to seeing how they run. Chevy Silverado active bump stops! Super cheap for like $30 coin each!

Yeah, keep an eye on it for sure. I think I needed around a 1” spacer to prevent the carrier bearing from pulling out from itself.

Rad! Shakedown at super? Or you hitting the dirt before then?

Super... better bring the torque wrench!

Probably wouldn’t hurt to throw a spacer in there anyways... :notsure:

Swapped out my standard for expo springs this afternoon. Here's some pix of differences between the two. Something worth mentioning, the standards (dirty pack) are maybe 5years old and pre-combined with trail-gear. Looks like a few common things were changed, like the placement of the centerpin isn't off by a 3/4", meaning I didn't need to use my relocation kit that I put on my standards. I also noticed the expos have thin metal pieces between each leaf at the center, while standards did not.

After tightening it all up, took it for a drive and everything is smooth, no weird creeks or squeaks (like I noticed with the standards).

Here is my standards. Never seen any like it. They don’t have the half leaf up top and also have through bolts for ALL the leaf spring clamps.

I will be adding the OME d29XL aal before installing them on my truck

My expos and standards also have different orientated clamps too...maybe they've been through multiple versions.

Yeah possibly. Wish I just had expos, but I think the standards with the aal may work out. At least with my clamps it’s easy to do the AAL.

1st is standards with no weight
2nd is standards with a bunch of weight
3rd is expos and they're handling the weight very well.

Great looking truck! I'm about to pull the trigger on AP Expos with Bilsten 5125 for my DCLB. Just need to decide which setup for the front. Thinking 5100 and 885 springs.
