How do I improve shifting and acceleration?

My 2019 with the 3.5 liter, and auto transmission, seems to be very slow in acceleration for having 278 HP and hunts for gears. To help I installed a cold air intake that helped acceleration some but not the gear hunting. My 3.6R Subaru Outback that weighs 400 lbs more does far better. I have heard that the 2019 had a computer issue that causes these symptoms and that possibly Toyota was working on a reflash to fix it. Anyone know if this is true? Would I be better off installing a performance programmer to fix shift points? If so, what brand have people had good results with? I have tried the "xtra power" switch on the dash but have not noticed it helps, just makes for worse gas mileage.

If you want to keep up with a Subaru 3.6 get an Ecoboost Ford.

Thought my 2020 v6 auto was the same for about 1500 miles or so. Right about at that mileage everything got way better. I'm totally satisfied with the bone stock drivetrain now. Whatever toyota did on the 2020 truck drivetrain, imo works fine.

Your Subaru does not weigh 400lbs more than your truck, unless your truck is 2wd and you have 600lbs of stuff in the Subaru.

Edit: I posted the wrong numbers..

    Correction:

Outback 3.6r curb weight is 3,893 lbs.
    https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2019-Subaru-Outback-3.6R_Limited__4dr_All_wheel_Drive/specs/

Taco Off-Road 4x4 curb weight is 4,445 lbs.
    https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2018-Toyota-Tacoma-TRD_Off_Road_V6__4x4_Double_Cab_127.4_in._WB/specs/

Taco Off-Road 4x2 curb weight is 4180 lbs.
    https://www.autoblog.com/buy/2018-Toyota-Tacoma-TRD_Off_Road_V6__4x2_Double_Cab_127.4_in._WB/specs/

Note: OP's info says he has an Off-Road, so that's why I used the OR weights. The lightest 3rd gen is the 4x2 SR access cab at 3,980 Lbs.

More pedal, more patience. Your truck will learn what you want from it, and adjust shift points. 20k on my 2018 and no complaints.

    Work in progress...
My 2017 does 0-60...eventually. I always hear people on here whining that their 4x4 3.5 powered Tacoma isn't as fast as a Suzuki GXR 750 0-60. Like others have said didn't You test drive the truck ya bought? Well, I guess you are just asking how to make it a little better. No harm in that, it's just that this question is on here once a week at least.

It does. It weighs in around 4500# or so depending on configuration. Point still stands though.

Remove the body and the extra seat, it will accelerate faster.
