Noticed that my (new) truck's VIN fell into the ECU re-calibration TSB and on my 650 mile drive home on the hilly Interstate with CC on, the truck was hunting gears a bit. Service advisor said it wasn't completed, and at first tried to tell me I had to pay for it, and it wouldn't be done without them duplicating the issue. I told them that would be difficult since we are mostly flat here in NJ even on the nearest major highway. I told him it was a covered issue up to 80k and I want it done and will not pay for it. He suddenly found the emissions issue that it is filed under and told me to make an appointment, still dont know if they will refuse to do it after I drop it off. Anyone else have insight?

Dealers are independent franchisee’s and not a party to your contract with Toyota. So the obligation is on YOU and not them...when you brought it to their attention they acted in their duties as the authorized agent and performed the work on Toyota’s behalf.

What obligation, the fact that I told him he was wrong? and I want it performed? This isnt my first rodeo with Toyota, as I was one of the first to ever get PAID for the 1st Gen frame recall and had my whole driveline replaced on my 2nd gen way out of warranty. I was looking more for what to expect when i get the TSB performed somewhere

I guess a call to Toyota care and dealer shopping then. I had this dealer replace the whole driveshaft last year on my 09 along with the leafs, ujoints free @ 170, 000 mi under the TSB's. I thought they would be more receptive to reimbursements from Corporate when unresolved TSB issues arise.

Most dealers service shopswshops get defensive if they feel someone is coming in for free work they found on the internet.
A better position is to bring vehicle in describing symptoms, being able to replicate it document, and not mentioning TSBs.
Recalls are mandatory for dealer to fix, TSBs are not.
