    Backstory:

The TRAC OFF and CHECK ENGINE lights randomly came on today. I started truck before going work, went to Kroger for a few items before going to work, came back out, started truck up, and they were on.

The only thing I've changed recently was put in a cold air intake. I've had it on almost a week now and have had ZERO issues with it. Even went on a 300 mile round trip with no issues.

I disconnected the negative terminal, waited about 2 minutes, reconnected the battery, and still were on.

Any insight or ideas as to why would be helpful.

    Thanks!

Code reader makes everyone's life easier.

It is relatively cheap and can save you huge headaches

I haven't had time to get the codes read. Like I said, I was enroute to work.

I snagged a code reader for a similar situation for 40 bucks. Plugs into the OBD2 port straight to my phone

I'd get one that reads trans temps next time kicking myself for that.

If you're able any auto store will lend you one for free or dirt cheap to read it. Maybe avoid a tow. Maybe it is a super easy fix.

Like everyone said you need to own a obd2 scan tool.

Oddly enough the O2 sensors B1S1 and B2S1 (fuel/air ratio) sensor fault is a common cause of trac off and check engine when they appear at the same time. Wheel speed sensors or wheel bearing problems usually only light up abs and trac off. This is my experience and yours of course may be different.

On my break from work, I went outside opened the gas cap and re-tightened it. I cranked truck up, and the warning lights were still on. I'm guessing it's a sensor in regards to the cold air intake I put in last week. Which is so strange because I did a 300 mile round trip earlier this week WITHOUT any issues. I know that doesn't say much, but it was mostly highway/interstate driving. Guess it could have just cropped up today?:confused:

I've googled the issue and some results show this same issue shows up with "bad gas." I did fill up yesterday at a local Shell station. So it could be that issue. But I'll try and get by Autozone tomorrow and get the code read.

But I appreciate the feedback. It just scared me how randomly it showed up when it didn't when I first cranked up going into work.

Most codes required drive cycles. I.E. the fault shows as a pending code, no light, untill it fails to meet expected parameter two or more times. Then it will set a hard code.

You said cold air intake. Is it maybe a oil soaked filter?
Quite often they are over oiled and will foul the sensors with raw or burnt oil depending on location of the sensor.
I am a big fan of dry filters and factory air intakes. They all flow more than enough air.

The filter felt dry and not oily at all. When I got to work, I disconnected the battery's neg terminal, waited about 2 mins, and reconnected (due to time constraints), cranked back up and lights still on. As of right now, it doesn't seem to affect it's driveability. But it's gonna sit overnight anyways while I'm work. So not much I can do in the in between lol.

But this is my set up after install last week:

    20200524_091448.jpg

Clamps all seems to be tight enough. Hose appears to be on properly. And air filter I know is on right. It wasn't difficult to take apart and put together. But as with anything mechanical, it could be almost anything.

Swap back to your OEM intake to see if it fixes the problem.

And your shielding looks open to the engine bay so it looks like you pull in more warm air than the stock intake....

I had one of these intakes on my previous 17' Sport and I thought it was an oiled filter. It was not. I had the same lights, and the hose had even opened up a little.

I cleaned the filter with Dawn really good, dried it carefully, bought some Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner, gently removed it, gently cleaned it, buttoned everything back up and no more lights.

It only takes a minor amount of oil to get on that sensor to throw a code.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm still gonna get those codes read before jumping all in. It might something as a simple fix. Or overly complicated. If nothing else, I can always revert back to the old OEM system. Just hate to think I spent good money on something that caused this issue.

Just make sure if you clean that MAS you are gentle with every step. They are very fragile.

Also, and this shouldn't matter but isn't the tube supposed to be positioned/rotated so the MAS is on top hanging down? It looks like your tube is kinda jacked up.

Edit, I think I see the MAS but I also see what appear to be gaps where the tube goes into the rubber adapters.

Yep, I have put them on two of my uncles jeeps (grand Cherokee and wrangler) he loves the sound. I have since had to listen to him complain about codes and costs for cleaning and replacing sensors but whatever, ain't my ride.

Sorry edited for monastery rations induced misspellings

I think it's a dirty sensor or a improper fit allowing air to get in. I thought for sure I had mine tight but because of the oil the vacuum increased and it opened up. I thought that was the only problem. After I fixed that I learned from the guy I bought it off of that it was a dry filter setup.

Never had another problem with it.
