If you lay kinda diagonally in them you can get pretty flat.

We recently switched to hammock tents. Here mine and the wife’s setup. Super comfortable sleep. We also have under quilts but I took the picture before I put them on. Like sharkfrog said, if you sleep a little diagonally you lay more flat.

anyone ever camp up towards Downieville? heading that direction to fly fish this weekend and camp for the night. I Know Gold Lake is up that way, hoping for some direction on some spots in the area. Not 100% sure my buddies rig can make it up to some tougher spots

Make sure you check to insure the river is open to fishing. Initially, it was closed even after the Last Saturday in April typical opening. Locals did not want to be overrun with tourists. Bunch of campsites downriver from Goodyears Bar, right on the river.

Solid Recommendation, I will double check that. Ive camped union flat and some of those spots, but being california campgrounds they are still closed :/

edit: Still closed for 2 more days.

Specifically, this means fishing is now suspended on the North Fork Yuba River from Yuba Pass downstream to the confluence with Goodyears Creek and the trout opener on the entire mainstem of the Downie River is delayed, both through May 31, 2020.

I'm can fall asleep just about anywhere. Once you dial in the correct amount of tension on it, I find them to be rather comfortable. As others have mentioned, sleeping diagonal helps also.

Is that tension or the right amount of tension releaser?

Coupled with the fresh mountain air and the sound of flowing water. A little swing in the hammock just rocks you to sleep. The ultimate tension releaser in my opinion.

Been a long while since I've done it and I'm sure there are better ways now, but I used to just use my backpacking sleeping pad about half inflated.

Yes I took the picture before I put them on. My under quilt is rated at 35* and I sleep in my 20* bag. I’ve slept in low 30s just fine. You can also cover the top better to trap in some heat. Ours come with rain flys. With out any insulation on the bottom (under quilt or some people sleep on mattresses or pads) you will get really cold at night. Summer nights should be fine without it.

If you mind bugs you might want to also look at bug nets if you’re going to sleep in them over night.

For my $0.02: https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DCCS620P1-Lithium-Ion-Brushless-Cordless/dp/B00GLI0VRM - I'm much happier now NOT having to spend any time messing with the carb, dealing with stale gas, mixing gas for it, cleaning spilled 2-stroke gas out of the bed of the truck, etc.

But the chainsaw only comes out when I'm going to the sierras. The folding bow saw (Boreal21) always lives in the truck and sees way more use.

I know I am late to the party but I wanted to pass this information along.

The trail is maintained by a local 4X4 club in Sacramento called "Hi-Landers 4WD Club". I used to be a member when I lived in the Sacramento area.

Here is a link to their webpage. This page will give you information if the trail is open or not.

I've got the same saw and it does really well when needed. I don't know where you store it but mine likes to leak bar oil out the bottom. That's my only complaint with it.
