Space force complete. I’m still pissed why it doesn’t say she’s in jail. The director basically said you aren’t missing anything, that’s the way it is. Lol.. so dumb

I am mid-forties, so I'm too old to get into a lot of stuff on Prime/Netflix as it's too much of the same old rehashed plot line I have seen a hundred times before, there are too many overly blatant dog whistles I just end up rolling my eyes at, the writing is too lazy and people are just plot line devices, and/or it the show is too nihilistic and part of the "problem".

That all said, a few shows I have found worth my time, for those in the same boat as me (I am leaving out some of the big ones everyone has already seen like Altered Carbon, the OA or Better Call Saul):

Lost in Space - This was surprising, I was not expecting this to be any good (like most modern sci-fi is now). There are very few shows I can watch with my kids that keep my attention, this is one of them. It has it's cheesy teen drama parts, but its all in good fun.

The Expanse - The only other decent sci-fi series since Firefly. A lot of people are probably already aware of this one, but it is so good.

Documentary Now! - This is so good. I am really impressed on how they are able to spoof popular documentaries and nail what it is about the original documentaries that are absurd and then turn it up to 11.

The Good Place - Most people are aware of this, and I almost didn't start it, as it seemed not my thing. However, I was very surprised by how good this is. The way comedy and metaphysics are so easily intertwined on this in a way that truly works on multiple levels, actually makes the show edifying to watch. The writers on this show all deserve to go to the Good Place.

The Umbrella Academy - Clever and relatively original given the genre. The woven mystery/history is expertly done. I couldn't stop watching it.

Dark - It seems some of the best series are coming out of Germany right now. This is probably one of the best. I like well developed mood in my shows as I do good, realistic, interesting characters. This show has both in spades.

Babylon Berlin - The first 2 seasons were better than the third, but still good. The show creators come off as being bit nihilistic and like to roll around a bit too much in depravity, but that's part of what makes it interesting. The only real Achilles heel to this show, is that by the third season, the historical revisionism is going full steam and they are portraying communists as saints. One would have hoped for better, for a show originating in a country that saw the worst of what both fascism and communism had to offer.

The Same Sky - Another great series (only one season unfortunately) out of Germany taking place during the Cold War 80's. The Stasi are not whitewashed surprisingly, and what really blew my lid off, is that the Americans in the show are written fairly and not made out to be boogie men/women.

Perfume - German serial killer mystery series. I can't say what it is about it, but it draws you in.

Ad Vitam - French show. Like Dark, a lot of what makes this show work is mood (lighting and music). Writing can be lazy at times, but when the show chooses to be beautiful or profound, it really is beautiful and/or profound.

Black Spot - Another good French show with a cool mystical qualities. The cop land cruisers are nice eye candy as well. Better than the Frozen Dead, and the Frozen Dead isn't bad.

A Very Secret Service - French spy comedy set in the 60's. Lots of delightful French chauvinism that the French do so well.

Hotel Beau Sejour - A Belgian series that is a pretty decent whodunit.

Requiem - If you liked A Dark Song, you will like this series.

The Invisible Guardian/The Legacy of the Bones - First 2 films in a Spanish trilogy that dabbles with Basque mythology, mysticism and history.

Fallet: Clumsy English detective out of water in Sweden series. Funny whodunit.

The End of the F***ing World - I didn't expect to like this, but its original and clever. The girl's accent is so awesome, probably half of what makes this show worth watching.

Suburra - Italian mafia series based off the movie with one of the best soundtracks ever. The first season is really good, and then it starts to get a bit slow and the characters start to get stale.

Hap and Leonard - A fun, southern gothic, caper mystery movie, sort of thing.

Russian Doll - Kind of a Groundhog Day set in hipster Brooklyn.

When Heros Fly - Israeli series where a group of friends band together to do something Clancy-esqe.

Medical Police - Even if you haven't seen the Childrens Hospital shorts on Adult Swim, if you like dumb comedy, this is some of the best.

The Ritual - A Scandinavian bump-in-the-woods thriller flick.

The Innocents - Unknown special powers type flick. Well done.

Halt and Catch Fire - I don't know why I like this so much, as the writing can be lazy. Probably just the fact the actors are so likable, and the nostalgia.

Crazyhead - British monster fighter comedy series. Very funny, original and fun to watch.

So that went longer than I thought it would. I will say the ones that I really got into would probably boil down to Dark, Ad Vitam and the OA. Shows that try to get at the deeper existential meaning of things.

I don't get into a lot of stuff, proceeds to talk about shows the producers already forgot about.

    Good write up

Heh, yeah I didn't start out to make it that long, but the spirit moved me once I started. I guess the point was to highlight some good series that might have been overlooked by others, and/or that deserve more praise.

The first one you listed was a remake, just wanted to point that out since remakes were a primary complaint of yours. :D:boink:

    The Rover.

    From 2014.

Guy Pierce and Robert Pattinson. Not sure how I missed it but a top movie I’ve seen recently.

Speaking of Pattinson, what is up with The Lighthouse? I was too high to watch that movie.

Dicing With Death on Amazon Prime. Just as much about people's struggles to survive as it is about shitty vehicles on the nastiest roads.

Homeland on Hulu. Old show, but entertaining so far
