    I apologize, your original post seemed to hit a lot of key words (slow, acceleration, hunts for gears, Subaru, gas mileage). It didnt seem believable, but I will admit I was wrong.

    Now as far as your concerns with your truck...
    Theres not much you can do. You can go to the dealer and get the latest transmission flash, but itll only help a little. You can research OVTune, lots of people are happy with it, some are not. You can check your transmission fluid level (a link to the instructions on how to do thos are in the maintenance sticky). There is a supercharger and a turbo charger available for the truck (but that's $5k+). Reagear MIGHT help, but it might not and is costly for no guarantee.

    So basically, there are several band aids you can apply if your willing to spend the money, but theres a chance they still wont satisfy you. I would see if theres any tacomas in your area running some of these things in the regional forum and ask them if you can test drive their trucks
