Stock suspension is stiffer than a double shot of whiskey.

I have no desire for off-road or lifted performance here. I just want a smoother ride.

Looking at other threads, lots of peeps recommending Bilstein 5100's, but I can only find them with just the strut and no spring. I'd rather not have to use the stock spring. Mainly because I don't want to have to buy a tool for spring removal etc.

Is there any kind of quick strut product available that doesn't cost over $1,000?

Hey there, many people purchase used off-road take-off suspensions since they are valved much softer. Can usually find a set for sale for around $250

I'd just look for some take offs from an OR on here. Nothing will be plusher and cheaper.

Thanks, not looking for used. What about these? https://www.shocksurplus.com/produc...set-for-2016-2020-toyota-tacoma-4wd-rwd-6-lug

Again, can't find them with the spring, but I guess that's common.

Really don't know what to say. You can usually find take-off Off Roads that will have less than a thousand miles on them for around $250 or less. That's a guaranteed fix and will be the best bet budget wise.

There's absolutely no guarantee that Bilstein 4600's will give you what you're looking for, and on top of costing more for the parts, you'll then have to spend a little more to have the fronts assembled, let alone everything installed if you don't do it yourself.

Another suggestion would be to ensure you get some weight in the bed if you're not normally running anything. When I put my camper shell on the bed, the ride quality improved a lot and I'm running an SR as well, like you.

I guess he has the $$$$$ and don’t want to save. Stock off road has the smoothest ride

Not that I'm made of money. Just like Snaeper said, I just don't want to get into a set and not get the improvement I want without the ability to return them.

And, I'll def be DIYing this. I'd rather not buy a spring compressor, but they are only like $40, so not a huge deal. Would def get a quick strut if they are out there, just can't find any.

This is what is out there in my area rn . Nothing that looks better than the 4600 to me.

I agree. The OR has a super soft cushy ride

Sorry for my ignorance here, but the stock OR's, are they Bilsteins? Anyone have a part number as to what you guys are all referring to?

Stock off road shocks are bilsteins 4600 rides softer than 5100

Did you come here to argue or get advice? People have given you advice yet you argue. I can tell you the Off Road shocks are the plushest of any Tacoma. I test drove back to back against the Sport and the SR5. Off Road model was softest.
So get what you want, these guys were just trying to save you money.

Stock Off Roads are not Bilstein 4600's. That misconception is common.

4600 is basically a 5100, just meant for stock height and as an OE replacement shock for trucks that are not lifted and not running larger tired/wheels or added weight from bumpers/winches etc.

6112s can be set to stock ride height and are digressive rather than progressive if you’re into that.

Those are $$$ though, and there are likely cheaper options that will work for him for what he wants.

Went from stock OR to second gen pro set up, ie 6112's. OP does not want to go 6112 route.

Takeoffs can be had with such low miles and such low prices that both of your concerns are a non factor imo. Buy and don't like? Just list them again.

Shit OP, just go test drive an OR at your dealer, no need to even guess if you will like it or not.

Just a note here, you can borrow tools from your local parts store. Just put down a deposit and you get to use the tool free for a day or two.
