I have the PIAA RF Ion Yellow Light Bars-2 10" ones. Washed the truck with the power washer to get a lot of the dried mud off. Anyway, while drying the truck, I noticed that the fog lights were on but not fully powered. I unplugged the wires, used the air to blow out any excess water. They were still on but got brighter when I powered them on with the switch. I'm thinking its a bad relay because there appeared to be corrosion to one of the plugs. After a quick drive and everything dried and they are off. They do come on when the switch is powered on. Am I missing anything else? I was thinking of putting dielectric grease into the plug when I get the new relay but have recently read that dielectric grease could be bad. Any advice?

    Thanks

I put dielectric grease on literally everything. Every connection I make gets it. I even used it as mold release for some epoxy jewelry I made. I use it for orings, light lube, filling it electrical sockets that I'm not using, etc. I can't get enough of it. As to why your fogs are on? Not sure, when they're "failing" plug in an oem to verify wiring vs light.

I've used dielectric grease to for the trailer light socket connector points in all the trucks i've had. Saves from having any corrosion seep in there.

A handful of off-road light companies for whatever reason use a cheap relay. They claim it’s sealed, but I’ve had PIAA and KC lights both have the same fail point. It’s possible I was too aggressive in my earlier day’s with them. Dielectric grease will help, but obviously not if the relay has gone bad. You may be able to contact PIAA about a replacement relay.

    Thats what I figured.

I was always told that for any electrical contacts that might get wet, use dielectric grease. Saw a few articles that said it causes more harm than good. I'm going to stick to my guns and pie the dielectric grease into all of the connections for these lights.

Yeah, I'm going to put it into all of the connectors for these lights. And when I install my fuse block, I will put it into the unused areas.

I can see that..... I did order another one from PIAA last night. But I am going to look around for a better quality one. All I know is says LR-39 and cannot seem to find that on a search. I just have to unplug it and look at it on the weekend. Can't be more than a 12V 30amp relay for fog lamps......

    Thanks for the help everyone!!!!
