Hate making a new thread to ask this question, but is it a bad idea? Firestone has been putting in standard oil and now "high milage" since about 100k.

Should I avoid it for fear of leaking through seals?

Old myth, but with Tacoma it doesn't happen anyway, the only oil leaks that really develop over time is the timing cover, and type of oil doesn't matter.

You're fine using regular high mileage oil, but if you run synthetic is allows you to extend the oil change intervals if you feel like it, from 5000 to 7000 miles without issue.

I currently do 5 but right now I'm at 6.5. It's abnormal that I wait this long. So you think that synthetic won't extend the actual life of the engine?

I've seen 3 4.0 V6's fail in 15 years of working on Toyotas, 1 was due to water, 1 was a supercharged motor failure, and 1 was a 50k oil change over due.

They last forever and don't have lubrication failures like the domestics see. Just keep up the oil changes and she'll be good forever.

It could certainly help. But it’s all relative to the condition at which the engine is being run.
Towing, stop and go, and idle can all play a large role.

I try to do routine maintenance. Sooner if I’ve run the engine under hash conditions.
Other wise, I don’t worry to much about it. Because I use my truck. And using it, is what will ultimately cause it to fail. Hopefully a long, long time down the road.
