I have a 2004 RC 4X4 with the 2.7. I love it. Sure, it could use more cab space (I'm 6'2" but I fit fine") and all the other creature comforts but that's not what it is for! It's for hauling light stuff around, being durable and lasting a long time and in 4X4 iteration it's for getting from point "A" to point "B" on snowy and ice covered roads as well as muddy unmaintained roads and crawling around in the mountains to find that hunting or fishing site with enough gear in the back for a week outback. It's supposed to be a "utility vehicle" not a "station wagon" with a 4 or 5 foot bed behind it and five kids as well as a wife riding along. A truck without a bed that can fit a 4X8 foot of wood is pretty much useless for many tasks and uses since the entire family usually isn't riding along.

On the flip side "most" people have wives and kids which is why just about every pick-up now has a full or extended cab and the bed is an "afterthought". The RC in any brand anyone buy's was the mainstay for decades. Unfortunately, it isn't in this day and age. That is sad because the RC was the real every day driver for many as a "utility vehicle" before it was discontinued by every car company that made them. Some might still. But I haven't heard of any.

Hopefully, Toyota or someone else will grow a brain and bring back something like the 1st gen in RC in the same size the 1st gen was for every day driving on bad roads and normal "utility" work without the "station wagon" appeal which many don't have any desire for. A Gen 1 with an 8' bed might be a real seller which they could do without the "station wagon" effect by getting rid of the extended and quad cabs.

These Gen 2's and Gen 3's are so much bigger than my Gen 1 that eventhough my dad wants another one he can't buy one because it won't fit in the garage like the Gen 1 I bought from him did. Just a bit of trivia for those that haven't read my other posts. I never would have gotten my hands on this Gen 1 4X4 in primo condition with 119,000 miles on it for $5000 except for the fact that my dad hurt his back and can't drive a stick anymore.

Personally, I'd rather have a dad without a walker and not have the truck but the situation is what it is and he's doing pretty well. He still hunts regularly and gets his buck every year at 85 years old. That goes for Turkey hunting as well and numerous trips to the gun range every year to stay in practice. And yes, he goes hunting on a walker with the help of a "jock type" lawyer he is friends with.

Love that color, is it a "matte" finish. Thinking about wrapping mine so I can incorporate my company logo. This would be a great base color.

My 2004 with the 2.7 has 162,000 on it. Nothing but regular maintenance. One battery under warranty, then a second and it's been on this third one for over 6 years. It had a water pump replaced at around 60,000 miles under warranty. I did my belts at around 150,000 but they didn't need it. I'm just paranoid.

I doubt you have to worry about anything other than regular maintenance for at least another 100,000. If yours is a 6 then I could be wrong because I am only familiar with the 2.7 but I doubt a six needs anything done to the timing at just over 100,000 just as a 2.7 doesn't.

I keep checking the trans temps with the auto while towing and it doesn't seem bad at all.

    I just bought a 2011 Tacoma RC 4x4 automatic w bucket seats.
Love that truck so much. I cant se myself ever selling it. Before I have owned a
    98 grand cherokee
    2018 cherokee trailhawk(lemon)
Now a 2019 outback. I'd rather drive my truck with the rol up windows and non power seats.
I sold my motorcycle so that I could start modifying and im loving it.

I did the exact same thing, went from a 3rd gen 3.5 4 door though to a 2nd gen reg cab. Wouldn’t go back. Love the basics but did add in my own keyless entry and a few other tailored mods. Don’t miss the 3rd gen much.

My father in law who is a life long mechanic with his own shop wants me to have a v6 just as bad as I do and is going to help me throw a 4.0 swap down the road if we come across a low mileage wrecker. Until then the 2.7 is and has been perfectly fine for me. Did a ton of underbody work and rust prevention so I plan on keeping this one as long as I can’t.

This is my first tacoma. I love it. Wish it had the power of a v6 and a little more cab space but I still love it. Awesome truck. 2012 base model. 2.7l auto 4wd. 116,000. I have added fog lights, a 1 stage intermittent wiper switch because I couldn't find a multi stage. Under hood light and bed lights. Oil is changed every 3,000 miles and yes I know with synthetic i can go longer lol but I am very picky about this truck because it's the nicest truck I have ever had and have worked hard to get it. 20190317_145331.jpg 20190622_145928.jpg 20200524_143345.jpg

I found a cap/topper/shell for my Regular cab truck. Had it painted to match.
