What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Welded up the frame plates and shock relocation today.

 

Sure hope so. Putting on a head like that would benefit from some practice and experience. I was so nervous about putting the head down wrong and putting a dent in the gasket or worse scraping up the head on one of the dowels. I think I got it on alrite though.


After this its lots of experimentation. I think this plugs in...here....nope...how about......HERE....dang, not there either.

 

Cleanliness of the block is the most important part, the head should be bueno since it is new and milled as long as it was free of oils

 

Yeah the block was clean. I ended up getting a couple of small scratches in it from the razor blade, but running my fingernail over them I think they looked a lot worse than they were. Smaller I think than what a roloc disk would leave, so probably okay.

Cleaning the head was a challenge. Brake cleaner does a pretty good job, but I still ended up with streaks, and then when I tried to wipe those off, my rag left bit of lint all over, so I cleaned it again. Ended up just spraying it down good and then blowing it off with a heat gun.

I put bucket seats in my first gen today! And basically ripped half my airbox off. Does anyone have any tail light assemblies they wouldn’t mind selling?????

 

I haven’t been on here in awhile but I miss the big taco family! What did you do with your taco today? I fabbed seat brackets and put in new bucket seats! Also is anyone selling a tail lamp assembily

 

I disagree, I have seen road debris kicked up by a front tire hit the motor and actuator on a rear differential which broke the motor off. I have only had this happen to me once, but a guard would have saved it.

 

I know that diff.

 

But those guards use the same mounting bolts as the actuator itself. I feel like if you find the one in a million chance to rip it off like that, the guard would go with it.

perhaps a new alternate one is in order, i have been contemplating one lately
one that is dedicated to the OCD 1st gen taco people, one with no fear of whatever permeates in that other

 

She's a good diff 4.56 gears are great with the 4 cylinder. .

 

Has anyone tried installing a 360 view camera system on their rig?

I just ordered this controller and a few extra cameras (already have rear), wanted to know if anyone had any experience mounting side cameras on the mirror?
Currently i am thinking of drilling a small hole on the bottom of the mirror to install.
