Spark Plugs

Hello everyone. 52k on my original plugs now. I think it is time to throw in some new ones. Any suggestions for the 04/2.7 Liter? I have not done any reasearch on plugs yet.

 

Get either Denso or NGK plugs. Our trucks don't play well with other spark plugs. Whatever you do don't get Bosch plugs, I've heard numerous horror stories about some of those plugs breaking off in there. No need to get Iridium plugs unless you're boosted. You can try getting them from sparkplugs.com or trdparts4u.com. I used the latter many times getting various parts with great prices and customer service.

 

yep just go with denso's that the dealer has they are about 5 bucks a plug and you cant go wrong with oem.. I have also heard the same thing about bosch and breaking off so hope that helps

I was just curious if there was anything better out there.

 

I had a guy tell me he was runnning the Sure Fire (something like that) plugs in a '97 2.7L, and was marking 25mpg highway in a 4x4 ext cab, 5spd man. He has a K&N filter and intake system with a "tornado" (?) inserted in the intake tube as well. He said the plugs are the hipo plugs with four grounds to the electrode, making a larger, more even spark. These plugs run about $8 each. Do they really make a difference in mpg?

 

Can't answer about the plugs, but don't waste your time and money looking for a tornado. It is "snake oil" and takes up space in the intake that could be used for air, and does not work, it actually robs power and costs fuel over a stonck set-up.

 

I spent the $8 on the Denso iridium for my 2.4l 2WD, I figured anything could help.

If I take it easy on the pedal, (55-65mph) I can get 25.5 mpg out of it.
If I push it to 80 it drags it down to 22-23

Iridiums, K&N, regular unleaded

 

I ended up just going with the recommended NGK plugs. The taco sure needed it. The electrodes on the Bosches I took out were worn and the pickup runs much better now. I changed the engine oil and put in the Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w-40. I just ordered a Magnaflow exhaust system and an AFE cold-air intake system from Auto Parts Warehouse. Once I get them installed, I'll post my results.
