Your sight, rest, and new strings are probably close to $500 alone. When I bought my Hyperforce in 2018, the bare bow was $1099. Till it was said and done, I was close to $2,000.

Anyone got a sugguestion on a simple recurve bow for me and my wife to mess around with in the back yard at some targets? My only bow experience is using a youth bow as a kid and then in college with my room mates bear compound a few times. Wife is 5'4 about 135 so average size. What would be a good lbs pull weight? Is 40lbs good for us to just use for targets in the back yard ( we back up to a backstop ).
    something like this maybe?

Not familiar with Gonex. I am familiar with Samick (now Galaxy) recurves. They are a few $$ more but they make a really nice bow. To start off with, I wouldn't go any higher than 40lbs draw weight. There is no let off and too high a draw weight starting out can lead to bad form. Nice thing with take-down recurves is, it's easy to order another set of limbs. Depending on the increase you may need a new string as well.

As my body continues to fall apart gradually - getting harder and harder to draw my compound bow - I am considering going back to a crossbow (did for a few years after back surgery and shoulder issues many moons ago).

Anyway, looking at the RAVIN line.......

Anyone with personal experience with them?? VERY pricey, which is why I am asking.

    THANKS!!!!

    Pops

The guy I bought it from said he had it sighted in for 100 yards!! Could be just the way the scope is made with graduations for 10, 20, 30, etc I think to 100 yards. I would never consider it myself, MAYBE a 50 yard shot at a standing, broadside deer with NOTHING in front of its vitals. No idea how much energy would be in a 100 yard shot. I NEVER saw the bolt on my second shot at 27 yards!! No idea where it hit the target till I looked at the back side of the target - good left to right, but 4" low. Will take more time tomorrow sighting it in, as it arrived with the scope a bit loose.

Wife is going to Pittsburgh to visit our daughter tomorrow, so no one around to bug me while I try to 'dial it in'. Got a brand new crossbow target to break in and will stack my 4 other older targets behind it in case of a wild shot.

This one is rated at 425' per second using Ravin 20" bolts and a 100 grain tip (practice or broadhead).

Hopefully will have good news to report later in the day tomorrow!

Supposedly this crossbow has 160.5 ft lbs of kinetic energy and supposedly you 'only' need 65 ft lbs of kinetic energy for black bear, wild boar, and elk......

I don't understand any of that, but it still seems like a bad-ass bow!!!

I’m still struggling with this pack decision..

I’ve added the KUIU pro system to my cart at least a dozen times and backed out.

I did pick up their pro bino harness and range finder holder and love it.

A few months ago I purchase a Piledriver crossbow. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/101886646
It’s a cheaper cross bow but for the money it works great. I put a different scope on it and do 2-3 inch groups at 60 yards. I picked up a cross bow to hunt hogs at night. I have friends who live in nice communities that have hog problems. So far no luck, but I have full confidence in at 60 yards. I’m sure it would work just fine for deer. I need to find a place to mount my green light on it now as the scope doesn’t have room. Hopefully this month I’ll get the stank off of it and get my first kill.
