Have these in 265/70-17 and can confirm these are excellent all around shoes on a Taco. Burned thru 3 sets of Revo 2’s on my 1st gen without any issues. Really good in rain and snow.

Pretty much any AT tire will work and every one has their personal favorites. Most true mud tires are a little better in harsh off road conditions but are not the best on road. While the Michelins are a GREAT road tire they are not quite as aggressive as I'd like off road. But most anything in between will work.

As with anything else cost is a factor. Tires like the BFG KO2's and Goodyear Duratracs are great tires, but not enough better to justify the cost for me. I've gotten good results with various Coopers in the past and currently have Pirelli tires on both my Tacoma and F150. They cost about $400 less per set than either BFG or Goodyear.

I like my Cooper ST MAXX but they aren't quiet, and they're heavy as sin. I'm not interested in something with fantastic highway performance on my Tacoma but my partner's '99 Ranger will be driven on roads (sometimes gravel roads) only and needs new tires. I'll likely buy Cooper AT3S or Yokohama G015s. Similar weight, both have 3 Peak Mountain rating (though Coopers have much better siping) and are both decent tread patterns for an all terrain tire. Yokohamas are more aggressive for off roading but Coopers have more siping for on-road. Both also have excellent reviews and are said to be very quiet.

I will buy another set of Continental Terrain Contact A/T's (255/75/17) when these are gone... best tire for everything I have ever owned except for snow but nothing beats a dedicated snow tire in snow.

Edit: This includes places like Top of the World trail (utah) on the 4x4 side of things too...

This is pretty much the truth.

Keep your expectations in check and pick whatever you want. For every 1 complaint about an aggressive AT tire’s offroad performance you’ll find 100 more complaints about its on road performance.

Also......Duratracs are loud and suck on wet roads and ice.
