Whoa are they saying they're making you pay for them? Take pictures with an angle finder on the top and bottom in places they're parallel to one another as well as the outside in different locations to show them your frame isn't bent or warped - that's royal bs. C clamp can't make that fit. Absolute negligence.

That’s a good idea. I’ll have to do that. Yeah I emailed the guy and told him that my frame was straight and true and that I wasn’t willing to c clamp my frame to try and make them “work”. Told him I would test out the plates on other first GENs to prove my frame wasn’t the issue so we can rule that out and move forward from there

Well, I’m waiting on multiple parts so I kept busy and painted the tail gate strip that’s exposed sense i dropped the tail gate. Give it a more clean look. sanded the paint off with sander. Used my orbital sander with a finer grit then I hit it with some flat black.

I’ll cut outer layer of factory bedside off. Hang glass on bed rail. Reinforce bottom. I’m going to use conduit piping from a job site. Pinch the ends with a hammer strike them mount them.

Depends on what you want to use them for and how you cut the bed sides. My bedside spot welds were drilled out so the actual body panel was removed completely. If you leave some of the bedside by cutting it will be a little stronger. 1”x1” square tube from HD fits up inside the bed rail area. I drilled some holes and welded some nuts in there for mounting bedside hardware and on top for mounting lights or accessories later. I think angle iron would be how I’d do it if I did it again since welding in the nuts into square tube was a little too much work to make it worth it looking back. I’m still going to make a modular bed cage to hold heavy stuff like my jack, compressor, spares, etc., but you can at least make the bed rails beefier than they might have been stock from the factory with some reinforcement.

yeah that's waaay beefier than stock.
Did you ever consider rivnuts for the square tube?
Angle is a good idea also. 3/16? i feel like any of these options are going to put the bed sides structural integrity to shame in the long run.

    Hell yeah!

Rivnuts would be a good idea - I had a bag of M10 nuts from McMaster that I already bought so it only cost me a little time to drill and weld and was a good bit of practice for welding different stuff, but if you already have a rivnut gun I’d use it for sure. I’d say 1/8 is fine considering the body / bed panels are like 20 gauge sheet metal and you’ll have to cut down the angle iron to fit inside the rails.
