Can anyone who has swapped out their fender flares comment on how difficult it was? Is it really necessary to purchase the OEM tape and rubber strip from the dealership for $200+ or is double sided 3m tape just as good?

Are you swapping flares, or adding flares to a "no-flares" truck. Way different process. Flares for flares, the 3M tape should work fine. No-flares to flares means you have to drill the fenders.

How did this work out for you OP?

I used the 3M tape and there are spots that don't seem to want to stick.

Deal fell through because the owner of the black flares backed out. But I’ll most likely end up removing them to get linex’d. You can try using 3m adhesion promoter for a better stick!
