I may be welding on some 4xInnovations sliders this weekend. What kind of prep do I need to do as far as electrical goes? Disconnect the battery? Any other items I should consider? I don't want to fry any electrical components.

Anybody with experience in this process, please comment.

    Anything to reduce fuel economy
Some will say unhook battery and some will say it doesn't matter. I unhook the battery sometimes depending if i think about it. You should be good either way.

If you're worried about it, just unhook the negative terminal for safe measures

I'd suggest having the ground clamp as close as possible to the area where you are welding - I was told 40 years ago that this minimizes the chance of stray electrons wandering off to do harm.

It sounded reasonable, so I've always done it.

I unhook just to be safe. Be very cognizant of wires and brake lines that run inside the frame rail because it'll get real hot on the inside. I use a 2x4 to push the brake lines off the frame. Have a spray bottle of water handy because you'll start some small fires.

When you're done, make sure you repaint the inside of the frame where paint got burned off.

Also be sure to leave a good gap between sliders and rocker panel/pinch weld.

Disconnect the battery, keep your ground close to your work, as other have suggested, and you should be fine. Or buy/borrow one of these

Hook up a auto surge protector to the battery and keep the welding ground close to your work.
