Fortunately I didnt have to pay for it. I guess thats why they call them stealerships. Make a few bucks at the customers expense. Only positive with this is they did a good job on the frame replacement and no take backs to get things straightened out .

The worst part about this was my neighbor across the street had power the entire time. He must have been on a different grid. His house was lit up like a Xmas tree.

That's usually our fate. We live in the boondocks, so the house count is relatively low, and we're out on the end of a run; the electric wires literally stop dead about 1/10 mile up the road from us. The repair crews tend to fix the big outages first, so we wait. This week we were only out for about 14-16 hours, not too bad.

All I know is to be a good neighbor. If you have power and your neighbor doesn’t, offer some ice, cold beer or to plug in a extension chord. I’m helping my other neighbor cut his tree branch up for him.

Absolutely. My next door neighbors are retired and in their 80's. They also had some storm issues this past week. Large branch came down and hit their shed. I chopped it up and got rid of it for them.

I learned my lesson with Hurricane Sandy - we were out of power for five or six days and lost everything in the fridge & freezer.
We now have a generator that I can plug in to the house and run everything.

I find it amusing that throughout all of the hard storms we had hit his in my area over the past 5 years, we never really lost power not even during the hurricanes. But we’ve had more power outages in the past 3 days than during those storms

Luck of the draw I guess. :notsure:
I can say that the storm that came through this past Wednesday was the fastest, hardest hitting storm I've ever experienced here in my area of Bucks County. We had many local residents without power but we did not lose it but for a few minutes.
After Sandy I bought a big jobsite generator 9000kw. Overkill but I got a good deal.
I had an electrician friend set up an outlet on the outside of the house so I can plug the generator in when needed.
I don't have natural gas and a whole-house backup generator was not in my budget.

We were out for two weeks after Sandy. Didn’t get a genny until day 6. We lost the fridge and freezer contents. I got a new genny last summer, but we just plug the fridge, pellet stove, cable/internet, and some lights in if needed.

Our power flickers sometimes, and had gone out for an hour or two Every few years. No need for the whole house at this time. Might make up a cord to plug in the dryer outlet if needed.

Our development is all underground electric. That keeps us from these minor issues for the most part.

Where are we used to routinely lose power - put in a back-up generator when we built the house. Had to replace it last year so upgrade to a whole house. During Sandy we were down for 6 days and had the critical circuits on the generator so we didn't lose anything. Back then, you needed a separate panel for the circuits powered by the generator and it could not handle arc fault or grounds fault circuits so none of the bedrooms were on it. The new system powers everything and starts 30 seconds after power loss. This last storm we were a beacon in the valley - the only lights visible for a mile.

I'd say anywhere you lose power in timelines measured in the days, a backup generator is a requirement, even if it isn't an auto-start.

Did the exact same thing. Bought the last 7500 generator Lowes had and had an electrician hook up a plug for it.. Had to ask one of the kids friends with a truck to bring it home for us. ( pre-prerunner ) It will run the whole house if needed, basically got it to run A/C, heater and fridge.

I haven't bought one yet, but I'll be adding a sub-panel with a 3 way disconnect between with the well, heat, and a circuit per room +refrig/freezer on that panel.
